Hurry Up And Wait

See it all the time. There's a stretch of highway where I often have to stop between two lights, and I can see that the second light is red before I get there. It's a 50 MPH zone, but some chucklehead will insist on getting up to 60+ to get ahead after leaving the first light, only to have to stop at the red light that's been staring at him. I just want to laugh when I pull up right next to them.

It's especially funny if they were in such a hurry to get to the second light that they actually had to stop, but the ones who took their time end up passing them because the light turned green by the time they caught up.

It's simply a matter of scale.

Are you the dumb one to 99 out of every 100 or 1 out of every 100.

We were explaining the standard distribution to my young daughter who is looking forward to honors classes in high school so she doesn't' have to deal with as many idiots in school, (her words.)

We explained to her that for most folks, there will always be some number of "idiots" who lie well below her on the intelligence scale. But even if she's a 99 percentile child, there will be someone to whom her intelligence is inferior.

Also explained that getting upset "the idiots" really doesn't make her life any better. But what might is by helping out those who want help.

In other words, show some grace and compassion for others.

What sometimes gets on my nerves is people hitting the brakes way too early and way too hard. I notice it especially on the highway where simply lifting off of the gas pedal would suffice to keep a safe distance from slowing traffic, but instead people hit the brake pretty hard and it has a cascading effect to the point where the traffic slows down to a crawl for no other reason than someone hitting the brakes.

I usually try to never stop whenever possible. Of course The hurry up and waiters go ballistic, jump on the gas, change lanes and slam on the brakes, and bring their phones from their laps to their faces, and do whatever such narcissistic dimwits do on their phones.

Of course when the light goes green, they don't move until the car behind them honks, but it is likely that person too is absorbed in their phone, and 5 car length gaps open up between each vehicle, and 5 cars get through a light that 20 cars could have gotten through in that era pre cell phone.

This is just going to get worse and worse as the next generation gets their driver's licenses.

That sure seems to be the case around my neck of the woods. some people drive very dangerous juts to try and save a few minutes.
