Possible north central Gulf Coast landfall late next week as a Cat 4 or 5. Where did I put that Xanax?

I must admit, when I first saw the headline yesterday, I thought "Hurricane Dean" was some reference to that political figure.

Had to do a double-take on that one.

Yeah, but a tornado sends you beneath the surface of the Earth....

I rode out many a hurricane when I lived on the NC coast. Evacuation was made unsavory by the way those in power forbid reentry to the island.

Definitely not naysaying the power of the hurricane. Well, I am in a way since hurricans just ain't to be found 'round these here parts!!!!

A BIG hurricane..... wind speeds approaching that of fairly close proximity to a nuclear blast.

Eeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!!

And tidal surges.

Even when it's all over... all those snakes and critters crawling, crawling, everywhere!!!! In your house (if it's still there) and in your hair.

EEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kestas. Do you also have holdings in the mortuary sector?

Latest models now tracking back westward. Good luck Texas. Nothing like a two week slow motion panic attack. Hmmm... What's that I now see coming off the coast of Africa?

Ugh, gas prices will go up. We used to have some of the best prices in the nation...now we're 20cents/gallon higher than OKC and every other city ~2 hours away. This attack on the Texas coast will have us signing dirty limericks at the pump next week, dangit.

I'd offer some condolences for the weather-afflicted, but didn't they know when they moved in that this sort of thing happens now and again? Be prepared. People around here expect the annual tornado party and act accordingly.

(The doctor said the regular heart will be in next week and I can have this wooden one replaced.)

do you guys think gas prices are going to spike? i have 110 gallons tank i can fill up . gas is 2.75 now. yall think i should fill it up to weather out the gas price spike?

Since we live in Brownsville TX this one is being watched VERY closely by yours truly. We know that we are part of the target but hoping we are not the bull's eye!!

Never experience a hurricane while on land.

Rode out typoon Nina for 3 days in the South China and Phillipine seas back in '75. Hurricanes in the Pacific Ocean termed typhoons.

Aboard an itty bitty destroyer escort.

Awe inspiring, to say the least. At least we were surrounded by steel. American steel. In a vessel designed and built in the USA.

Imagining riding out the storm in a wood framed structure, mobile home, etc. downright terrifying.

Man, driving through I-40 and I-44 I never imagined any reason WHY anyone would live in Oklahoma.

And fill up your gas cans and gas tanks. I'm just sayin'...

Yes..You see what you are doing..others will as well. High demand = high prices. And that's what speculators are counting on. If noone panicked things would be cool.

Are you in Mexico? None of the computer models I've seen have Dean going anywhere except the central or north gulf coast of Mexico.

Tropical cyclones in the Western Pacific or Indian Ocean are called typhoons. In the Eastern Pacific they are called hurricanes.
