I believe the filters for the Cummins engines are Fleetguards repackaged.

Every one of them that I've looked at WM are Purolators. Just look for the thread to be stamped on the baseplate ..just like the MC filters.

Are you talking about the ones for the Cummins, Gary?

Noooo ..just the standard (most used) PH16/FL300 sized one. They're slightly more expensive than MC. That's the only one that I've seen on the shelf with the Mopar label.

I especially like this part of that article:
"It should be clear that Mopar filters are really nothing special. Unless you are trying to have a perfect restoration and need that Mopar logo, there is no reason why you should be buying Mopar oil filters. "

In one of my manuals it lists the Fram Toughguard (or perhaps Doubleguard) as an optional filter. Frams were OEM for quite a while (depending on your interpretation of "quite a while").

They are rebadged Fleetguards; but they are only the cellulose versions, not the upgraded stratopores.

Isn't that what you use, Steve? I found it interesting over the past couple of weeks reasearching brands/filters how some have a bypass, or an ADBV...I emailed Cummins and Donaldson about two filters I use often (Fleetguards/Donaldson Endurance) about whether they have bypass valves or ADBV's...both replies I got back mentioned no on both points. So why do some manufacturers use these devices in their filters, and some don't. Fleetguard is Cummins obviously, do they not feel that it's necessary to do so?
I know WIX uses an ADBV on their Dodge Diesel fitler, so does the Amsoil one. And what about the bypass valve? I guess that wouldn't be necessary as that is in the full flow housing...
Just curious.

I used Mopar until just recently when I ran out, I currently have a Wix on it. I mainly went the Mopar route because I got a hefty discount buying by the case (like $3/filter).

In the Cummins application, a ADBV is unnecessary because the filter is inverted. The bypass is unnecessary because the Cummins has a bypass built into the filter boss.

I think in some applications, they would trust a over-engineered part for durability and simplicity, than a mass produced part that could vary from brand to brand. Leave the filter to filtering, place the bypass on the engine.

FYI, the WIX filter I just bought did not have a ADBV. If they have the "extra" pieces (ADBV/bypass), it might be more for a multiple application deal than anything.

Right on, your comment makes sense...I guess the filter was placed in a different manner, it would be helpful. Same with the ADBV...
