I used to be a network engineer for big treasury dealing room networks. I used masking tape.
The big advantage is that you don't need cutters to take them off, so outdated labels get removed. That wouldn't be so important on a car.
Visiting managers didn't like it. Said it looked unprofessional.
Managers, in my experience, tend to be a waste of space.
