How to cut em' open

Yeah, the filter cutters are not designed quite right IMO. They should have put larger wheels on them so they could easily cut open smaller filters. The cutter designers must think everyone runs 4"+ diameter filters on everything.

Agreed. Or simply provide larger wheels (on the cutters that have the removable wheels) to accommodate smaller/larger filters.
 
Yes, I think I'm going to buy the 4 cutting wheel exhaust pipe cutter from Harbor Freight and give it a try. The one I got from Summit really isn't made for filters smaller than 3in dia. filters, which is what I mostly have.

Yep ... that would be a nice option too.

I think that's what Gary was hinting at earlier. Does anyone have experience with this particular product?
 
There was a post here some time back by someone who purchased the HF one cutting wheel pipe cutter. He said that it crushed the can as opposed to cutting it open. Just an fyi.

The Summit cutter has two cutting wheels and will work for <3 in dia cans, just takes some effort.

I agree, it might not touch both rollers but it will still cut the filter.
