While I was ordering parts for my truck off RockAuto, I looked at the oil filter section & saw a couple Tough Guards on wholesaler closeout dirt cheap. They look like new old stock filters, because they list the Tough Guard as the superior filter, & don't mention anything about the Ultra. Anyone have an idea what vintage these filter are? Usually I use the Fram Ultra, but couldn't pass up the deal on these, since the Tough Guard is a decent filter too.

Date code on the can can help you out with that.

Looks like these are from 2009. Think they started making Extended Guards in 2010 & renamed them to Ultra in 2012. Extended Guard was a 10k mile filter, Ultra is 15k.

I purchased a case of Fram High Mileage filters from Summitt racing for less than 1 dollar a filter. IMO...great filters for my T4R SR5. I run the filters for 8K OCI with Napa Full Synthetic 5w30. They do the job and no noise on a 100K engine.

Last night I noticed a 3387 Xtended guard oil filter still sitting on the shelf at Meijer. Also some one did a swap-o-rama because I grabbed a 7317 Ultra, opened the box and there sat a orange can filter in the Ultra box.

Based on my clearance TG8316 collection, this box art design was used from 2009 through 2012.
Definitely new enough to run without reservations.

It's when the box looks like this is where I reconsider using it.
