I've got about 17k on the car. Dealer did a half flush thing (idk) with about 4-5 quarts (i made sure he didn't use z1, but the best around was MOBIL 1). anyway, when should I do my next drain/fill? I know A/T don't enjoy the redline much and I do frequent that territory so I'd like to keep it good and fresh. Also, which type of fluid is good?

As bad as ATF-Z1 may be, the vehicle is still under warranty so I would have stayed with Z1.

I would drain and refill the transmission annually or every 15k on Hondas.

Drain and refills usually take between 3-4 quarts for most Honda 5-spd autos.

No, I was assuming that you're like most people who drive 12-15k/yr.

About every 15k is all you need.

ok. thank you very much! i don't mind using non-honda fluid, is there a fluid that is about the same price as honda atf-z1 but is a lot better.

I recently did 3 drains/fills using ATF-Z1 on our VUE which has a Honda powertrain. That was at the 30,000 mile mark. I plan to do a single drain/fill every 10,000 from here on out.

If you're going to switch away from Z1, I would recommend doing 3 or 4 drains/fills. That'll make sure just about all the Z1 is out of there and that you're running on whatever fluid you opted to go with.

I have a Toyota RAV4 and have installed a 2nd cooler and beleive 95% of the fluid is now Amalie Universal Synthetic. I think the second to the last drain, flush and fill, I poured in 1 quart of Toyota T-IV. The fluid is a nice cherry red.

I am not sure how similar the formulas are for Z1 and T-IV but the Amalie does cover the spec. I picked it up cheap a while ago. I do not drive much now so I don't drain it as much.
