The front brakes on my Accord have been wobbling for some time now. I had them resurfaced about a year ago but they started wobbling again shortly after that. How much would new rotors and pads cost at a shop? Also recently I bumped a curb and when I am on the highway my steering kind of floats back and forth, I would like to get an alignment, how much would that cost?

If you buy rotors and pads online(from Amazon or Rockauto or AAP with discount code) and have local garage put it on then the total cost should be around $150-250 for brake job. For alignment my guess is about $50-70.

I would guess 1.5 hr of labor for the brakes plus parts. So at $120/hr, probably $180 for labor and another $200 for parts. Most decent shops will not allow customers to bring their own parts.

If the shop has an on-car lathe, you're better off resurfacing versus installing new rotors. The on-car lathe will resurface the rotors to have zero lateral run-out, which is something that cannot be said about most new rotors today.

Alignment is usually about $100 on its own.

Considering that you hit a curb hard enough to bend something you also have to consider that the hub probably is also bent. You can measure the hub with a dial indicator to be sure.

If the hub is not true, it should be replaced. If you are going to use the existing hub and haven't verified its condition you're back to the on-car lathe even if you buy new rotors.

No one can accurately give you the figures you're after...
Just pick up the phone, it would give you an answer a lot sooner than having a bunch of people on a forum guess.

Shop prices can vary widely. The last I've heard for front pads and rotors on an 8th-gen Civic were like $230 parts and labor. But of course prices can vary widely.

Alignment is usually about $80 or so, but can vary.

Also, when you change out the brakes, get a brake fluid flush done too. It is supposed to be done every 3 years or so.

There are also mechanics on your local Craigslist that will do it for cheap.

I bring in parts to two indy shops. One part was a reman engine. But I do not go down to NAPA to save a few dollars. Recently I wanted Bilstein shocks and grease-able u-joints. And brought those items in. It does save the shop time as they can keep working on your vehicle without waiting for parts to be delivered. The other trick is to not bring in the wrong part often.

And believe it or not, the reman engine I brought in (had delivered) was defective (clogged oil galley) and was ruined at startup. The shop pulled it, sent it back waited for another and installed the second one.

Akebono ACT914 ProACT Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pad Set is $35.xx at Amazon Warehouse (package may be damaged, item may come repackaged)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B...1665&sr=1-1

ACDelco 18A1095A Advantage Front Brake Rotor is $13.xx at Amazon Warehouse (package may be damaged, item may come repackaged)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B...1952&sr=1-2

With free shipping the total parts is about $65, you may/may not pay sale tax. My mechanic charges $50 to replace pads and rotors, $75 for pads and resurface rotors. So the total parts and labor can be as low as $115.

Wow thanks alot for that! I'm going to treat the old Camry to ceramics and rotors all the ways around! This stuff is new, but just a little beat up, right?

On my 07 EX, Wagner TQC are about $45 and mid range rotors are $30 each.
Parts total is about $120 with tax and if you find a good mechanic like mine who charges $30hr you are talking $150 for a complete front brake job.
Alignments vary for cost and what you need.

Seeing as I am in Canada and auto parts here are priced much higher than the states you should be able to get it done for less than I've listed above. Just search Amazon for parts and then search for qualified and accredited mechanics that do work at home. I lucked out with one near me that owns his own shop but has a garage with lift and all the toys at home as well. Any Canadians near me who want his info give me a PM and I'll pass it on.

I've had good luck with Amazon Warehouse stuff, enough that I look for it when I shop. There's always a chance their quality will go down. "Used - Good" pretty much means it has some damage.

Maybe true in CA, but I've brought my own parts to multiple Ford dealers in NC and a well respected Napa shop and never had an issue. I only bring in high quality parts though. I think they know the difference between someone who is coming in with quality parts that will fit, and someone who just walked out of Auto Zone 20 minutes ago with a China white box part, after guessing at what their car might be in the parts lookup.

The front brakes and rotors are very easy to do on that car, if you can change a tire or do an oil change you definitely can handle it. If you don't want to do it many Honda dealers have front break deals from time to time.

Thanks! How do I get that consistently? is there a direct website?

Search parts for your car on Amazon then click on the part you like, on part page click on "Used from" at the bottom of the part descriptions then you will see the next page of all sellers, mostly Amazon Warehouse.

Most "Used" items from Amazon Warehouse were not really used, but more likely damaged package.

Every shop I know will fall back on "no warranty expressed or implied" when using non-oem parts.
My independents are different though, they will install whatever I bring them however I've found that chain shops refuse to warranty anything they don't supply.
For example I wanted a centerforce DF installed in my old mustang. Brand new in box part. I didn't have time to do it as I was building an apartment building and I was lucky to get every second Sunday off.
I took the car to OK tire and they first off refused to install,so I came for the car. As I was walking out with my keys the manager said they could do it but wouldn't warranty the work. Which I deemed absurd.
I took it to 2 more places that had time to do it that day and both had the same story. We ended up getting rained out that day and the next so I ended up doing it myself however I did learn that these shop would rather use what I thought was a lesser quality part and warranty it,then a top notch part.
Bizarre
