How much longer would you run these PSS’?

They are original Michelin pilot super sport factory tires. 4 years and 11k miles on them on my 2021 M2. Have about 5/32” tread on the inside rears, fronts have similar cracks and 6.5/32”

How much longer would you all run these, or is this totally normal?

That is if the road noise of the PSS’ doesn’t irritate the heck out of me before then and I replace them with contis or PS4s

From a safety perspective? For a while. I replace at 4/32” because I value rain performance.

That said, if the noise bugged me, as it appears it bugs you, then they would be gone tomorrow.

The second sentence should end in "because I'm not driving on them."
Not really. I'm more conservative than most with tires, i don't run them less than 4-5/32. I don't run them more than 5-6 years.

If you do some searching, you will find that this is somewhat common with michelin tires. if the sidewalls are cracking especially near the bead or from the tread to the side wall, i'd replace.

If it bothers you, or they are loud or ride hard, sure nothing wrong with replacing them.

@CapriRacer is the expert here, i'd be interested in his opinion.

As long as they are safe for road use I’ll run them one more year I think. I just haven’t had PSS’ before so didn’t know if that meant it had dry rot so early…

PS4s or contis for replacements when a sale happens?

How worn down to the wear bars are they? This is the easiest way to see if they need replacement.

Man, I ran PSS at 3/32 and went through nasty rainstorm like nothing. Better than many new tires. That tire always defied and will defy laws of physics.

Can you look at the tire sidewall and find the DOT date code? It will be a 4 digit number following the letters DOT and will tell us how old they are.

What those cracks are is the surface of the tread rubber aging faster than it is being worn away. That means the tread is encountering heat. Nothing to worry about.

The real indicator is the grooves. Cracks there are an indicator for the rubber deep inside the tire - the rubber that matters.

And it's not the presence of cracks, it's the severity. I go into more detail here: Barry's Tire Tech: Tire Aging and Weather Cracking

The cracking doesn’t look bad but it is a sign of deterioration. You can’t tell the extent of deterioration or how long the tires will last. Why risk it? Since you're asking you have some level of concern.

I would run the tires only until I find the next sale on the tires I want. I'm conservative when it comes to tires. They're the only connection between your car and the road.

Believe it or not I have almost 102,000 km on my original back tires on my Corvette, they are also MPSS. It’s incredible how long they have lasted. They still have a decent amount of tread on them too (not quite enough for driving in heavy rain but I avoid the rain in this car as much as I can)

There are no cracks at all in mine, as I have never driven the car in extreme cold (coldest temperature I will drive in is minus 5 Celsius)
