How many unread emails do you have in your inbox?

Depends on which email account I'm looking at. Every few months ill go in and clean up the spam and junk. Even when you unsubscribe it seems like that doesn't work.

What a pain in the neck.

My wife had over 130,000 and Gmail finally said to delete some or she would run out of space. She perused the subject of her emails but wouldn’t necessarily read or delete and then it got to be too much to go through so she let it ride to see how high it would go.

She just recently deleted and unsubscribed from a bunch to get it under wraps.

I have zero.

I just deleted 470 or so emails, all unread. I delete them en-masse regularly.

Family and friends know to call or text.

I am actively trying to limit my screen time.

Now if I could shake the Bitog addiction... :censored:

Gotcha beat.

There is also a difference between unread emails and truly unread emails.

I have many emails that I mark "unread" after I quickly scan them because I like to revisit and not to forget about them.

If you mark them unread, you will get the count plus they are highlighted (bold) and easy to find and group.

That is what I do too. The Outlook app for my phone is awful in this regard, it cannot be set to not mark as read, I always have to do whatever swipe it is so as to keep it marked as not read—sometimes I see an email come in, I read it, then realize I need to answer but when I’m at my computer.

One habit that I have that I have not given up on is folder usage. I have a couple thousand. Every project gets a folder. I’ve thought about quitting the habit but some email threads suffer tremendous drift. They start out as one project, with the project name in the subject line and all—then turn into a different project. Things are getting better but it still happens. Plus not everyone uses the same project name, once it flips over to purchasing it’s a req number or PO number to them, and is marked as such, but If I recognize it and drop into the right folder, then I don’t have to remember “their” control number.

@supton

I see what you mean. Sometimes the subject of discussion totally changes within a given email chain ... I usually end up creating my own email draft and save it in subject B folder to refer to subject A folder for additional info which is taking place under an incorrect email subject.

I've given up asking people to please start a new email or don't hijack ... It happens!

I've learned that you can make a copy of the email and paste into folders too. I've only done that once or twice, and I don't know if it really makes a copy or just lets the email show up in two places.

I've got a crap load, but they are all advertisements. At work, I had none.
And then there is Gmail...why you can't select ALL and delete is a terrible idea. I don't get anything there, but my wife and a friend of ours is a different story. Cleaned out my wife's gmail one day and got rid of 1200 advertisements!

You can but it's just really hidden.

You have to click the checkmark and click all. Once you have done that, a banner will come up and let you select all xxxxx conversations.
No, this does not work on the wife's or my Samsung S10. Maybe it's the version of Gmail, or a dependent setting, or just the implementation. I just tried it again and nothing shows up, not even select. Each email must be marked as selected individually, which take forever. I suppose if Google wants to store all that garbage, that's up to them.
Maybe it's a feature reserved for laptops or desktops. I don't install Gmail on any of those machines that I own.
