Just ran my first half-marathon today, the Country Music in Nashville.

Finished in 1:45.

Could have done better with better training and planning.

Looking forward to doing a full, maybe this fall.

I used to run 6 miles every night (there was a 6 mile hike and bike trail where I used to live). I`ve gotten lazy and really need to start back again.

Nice, congrats!

I've run 2 half marathons, both times finishing around 1:50.

We've got 2 toddlers now though, so I don't run as much as I'd like.

I am running a 5K later in May though!

I run just as an aerobic warm up to weight lifting sometimes. You averaged 8 min/mile in your first 1/2 marathon. I couldn't dream of going that fast. Congratulations, you're off to a good start.

Thanks a lot guys. I've come a long way since I started running in 2003. Back then it was tough just to do a mile without stopping. Now my body actually looks forward to the workout.

To anyone who is considering starting to run, or getting back into it, I highly recommend it. Just start out slow and don't try to run too much initially, both to prevent injury and burnout.

BTW, to the guy with the toddlers - I got passed by a guy pushing one of those running strollers with a kid in it!

I truly miss running. Nothing really made me feel so alive as when I was running a few miles several times a week. Regrettably, a back injury has forced me to cease running....and basketball, plus numerous other activities I used to do.
Enjoy it...but always be sure to take care of your back, legs, and feet. Injuries can alter your life in ways that can be traumatic.

Congrats on a half marathon. I used to do cross country in high school, but some friends of mine convinced me to get back into it recently. Got up to 3 miles so far, and averaging around 9:30/mile. Hoping to do a 5K this summer.

I enjoy running with my wife, and now with the baby in our Bob jogger. Im not a big long-distance runner, I prefer biking and rowing for fitness for longer durations.

Never had the desire to do a half or full marathon. My wife does triathlons, and perhaps some day Ill do one of them. I do enjoy the fundraiser 5 and 10k runs.

I've never run any races, but I do enjoy jogging. I don't jog as much as I did in the past, but I can still jog a few miles now and then.

I run to the Freezer to get Ice Cream, but that's about it.

My daughter and I run from time to time. We just ran the Color Run 5K yesterday. I think we ended up with a 13 minute mile average. Of course there are 4 stops to get doused with the colors represented in the Autism Speaks logo.

If we took it seriously, we could easily get below a 10:00 mile average and probably closer to an 9:00 mile with some real, committed training.

I used to run cross-country, and indoor track in high school and college, mostly as a way to maintain conditioning for bicycle racing during the off season.

I had to give it up due to the SEVERE 'shin splints' I developed which left me barely able to even walk until they healed up.

Not as much as I used to do. I have IBS in my left knee so if I run too much I have to start popping NSAIDs and I prefer not to do that.

But congrats on your first half marathon. I have done exactly one in my life and I will stop there. If you enjoy running keep it up we only get one life to live!

I know how you feel. I've had a couple of bouts with shin splints from pushing too hard. Also developed plantar fasciitis in one of my feet from running too much. Luckily I got over that by cutting back my running, and using some shoes with extra support and stability for a while.

It's easy for me to get hooked on running every day, but it's rough on my hips, knees, and feet. These days, I try to switch it up, adding road biking, mountain biking and weights.

I was a runner in high school also - XC and middle-distance track - both which were great conditioning for soccer!
Now I run maybe once a week. Hard to motivate to run solo vs the group setting we had. I still think its a quick, easy way to get a cardio workout and prefer it to other things. e.g. - road riding - I feel a 30min run gives a similar workout as a much longer bike ride and is more efficient time-wise (simply my opinion).

The whole trail running / ultra distance thing has caught on. I prefer to hike and enjoy the scenery, unless its a trail I've done many times, then a run up it is a great workout (been a long time since I've done that though).

I find climbing and surfing more fun for an active hobby - enjoy pounding the pavement, though!
