How many of you...?

I've used Valvoline for 4,200 miles consecutively. And then I used Quaker State for 6,800 miles consecutively. Right now I'm working on a record of Mobil 1, but so far it has only been a consecutive count of 5,837 miles.

I switch alot. I think I have only had three consecutive oci's with MC blend, and that was when it was new because I went to the dealer. Now I use whatever synthetic is on sale.

Started with Valvoline conventional. Avoided Pennzoil like if it was the black plague because it contains wax. Changed to Castrol. Now I use Mobil 1 synthetic.

Always castrol gtx or get high mileage in the vehicles.but my ope's and quad and snowmobile are always open for experimentation

Looks like I'm the only one on BITOG that doesn't skip around with differant oil brands.

In the 60s and 70s Penz and QS had the reputation of being sludge prone oils, deserved or not. However in the 60s I used QS in a nearly new Valient slant 6 and in 50K it sludged really bad, and that was with 2K OCIs.

Okay, it's clearly tig1's fault that these rumours got started years ago, then he got placed on XOM's payroll.

I don't do a huge amount of brand jumping either, tig1. I used enough Quaker State in the 1980s in the cab fleet to more than make up for any jumping around these days. As far as synthetics go, the only ones I've ever tried so far are Mobil 1/Delvac 1, RP, and old style Syntec.

I stay with ExxonMobil synthetics for my Prius (Toyota 0w20, Mobil 1 0w20). Don't ask me why.

Oh. Alright. That explains alot. I was at Walmart adding to my stash of PP a couple of months ago and I had an older gent ask why I was buying so many jugs of pennzoil. I of course stated its one of the best oils out there and 23 bucks a jug and he said it will sludge my engine. He also said the same about castrol.
We chatted for a while as we waited to pay. He's a farmer,I'd guess around 80 or so.
He told me that synthetic oil is a scam and its just regular oil re-labelled. At that point I quit lending any credence to what he was saying. He did say he was a valvoline guy though. I figured it was best not to bring up next gen. If he thought syn was a scam I didn't want the poor old fella to snap a breaker trying to compute that process.
Thanks for the info Tig. It's amusing to still hear these old notions still pop up.

EXPOSED!!!!
Mobil would be smart to employ him. He uses his own equipment as a test bed for their products,he is brand loyal and his engines have only ever gotten M1 so any data would be exclusive to M1. Such as if there were deposits or anything of that nature. It can't be blamed on using something else for a few runs.
He isn't pushy,he posts relevant pics and has actual knowledge behind his answers,he isn't reading pre-written answers and since he bought his vehicles new,and have only used M1 it eliminates many variables.
Me on the other hand switch up every interval,I mix various grades and additives and change it usually too early. I'm the poster child for what not to do as far as vehicle maintenance but in my lifetime I've only had 2 engine failures. My first was a 305 in an 83 cutlass. It turned the cam into a cornstalk and a ford 2v from my mustang which was fords fault.

I buy on price or what I feel like, jump around a lot.

Right now, running syn for the first time in any vehicle with the AFE.

Before I joined BITOG I used GTX in all of my rides. I really don't know why I picked GTX, but since I never had any problems with it, I just kept on using it.

Now I'm using whatever is the cheapest of major name brands. Pennzoil just happens to be on sale often so I use it a lot. I also have few jugs of Valvoline that I haven't tried yet, but since my stash of Pennzoil Conventional is amost gone, Valvoline will go in next.

I don't blame you. I think this Prius really enjoys the Mobil 1 it's churning now. If I ever stop finding oil on sale I'll probably buy Mobil 1 twice a year and call it good for this vehicle.

I guess I was pretty brand loyal to M1. For good reason since I got 238K out of a carbureted engine in the 80's before the car was totaled. This site has convinced me that this kind of brand loyalty is not necessary especially for my low mileage use.

Car is still under warranty, and everyday discount price of $39 Motorcraft oil changes with tire rotation thrown in is hard to beat, so its just going to be a question as to what I settle on for an oil change interval absent a hair-raising oil analysis or two.
