how many of you keep your firearms locked up?

I keep my unloaded 380 Auto in my nightstand top drawer and a loaded clip in the lower drawer under PJs. I did have occasion to load the clip into the gun when someone was trying to open my bedroom window about 2 AM. I loudly told them I have a gun pointed at them and to get the heck way. I cocked the gun and was going to use it if he got halfway through the window. Police lights and flashlights showed up and was told that the Guy had walked out of the the mental ward a the local hospital. I was so grateful I didn't need to use my gun because I would probably end up in cuffs and shackled. +-)) Ed

I attended a military show and shine evening event. My employee who was ex-military and a current reservist was showing someone a military pistol. The guy kept waving it around, sometimes in my direction. I was very uncomfortable. People who aren't firearms savvy could kill you just like that. [And yes my employee should have taken the pistol away from him or given him a quick firearms safety talk.]

There are also reports of little kids shooting another little kid with a real gun. They don't know any better. But dead is still dead.

There is a distinct difference between having firearms out of reach-hidden in a secure place and unlocked and lying about. No my firearms aren’t under lock and key. If anyone finds them before me it’s because they got me first…which is unlikely. My firearms are strictly for my home and family’s protection. Start kicking down my front door etc. and my firearms are easy for me to grab rather than fumbling with a key or combination most likely in the dark.
 
When I had my ar, I did not. It was on my bedstand in condition 3. But I always lock my doors - if something happened to it then I have *more* things to worry about

A 5-button simplex/unican lock can be opened in about 4 seconds in the dark, by feel alone. It's purely mechanical, no batteries or electronics that can fail.
 
I have a three season cabin deep in the PA woods about 25 miles NE, as a crow flies, from this guys last known location. Wife and I have plans to head to the cabin this weekend for some fly fishing. I have a (NJ legally owned) 9mm Walther pistol I’m thinking of bringing but I’m not sure of the PA laws. Maybe wisest option is to stay away but I hate giving in to the bad guys.

This guy better watch out. PA is much more accepting of guns and target practice then where I live. Hearing gunshots from the two closest rifle ranges is a regular part of the cabin Saturday background noise along with the cricket and birds.
 
Mine are all locked up in a fireproof safe in the basement. Ammo is locked up in a locker. I'm more worried about theft then ever needing to use them in the house.
 
All locked in either full safes w/ ammunition separate or a quick access lockbox. That said, I do not support storage laws, they are prone to abuse, but I also believe that owners can be held liable for recklessly and negligently allowing access. In this case though, recklessly and negligently should be a relatively high standard of proof.
 
All mine are locked up except my daily carry gun. My worst nightmare is someone breaking into the house and gettiing to the guns and finding out later some inocent child got shot with one of my stolen guns. Monatored Alarm system, steel reenforced exterior doors as well as a steel reenforced interior door where my gun safe is kept. Camaras around the property are coming in the near future.
