How many mix Mobil 1 viscosities?

Curious to know how many mix Mobil 1 and if there are any negative aspects other then not knowing the true viscosity when mixing Mobil 1?

My top up oil right now is Mobil 1 5w30 + 15w-50 + Mobil 1r 0w-30. With the mileage I have on it, I wanted to try and slow down the oil consumption so added the 15w-50 to it. Amsoil ASL didn't slow consumtpion down. Series 2000 and Mobil 1 10w30 did the best in this area.

I currently have 2 quarts of Mobil 1 5w30, 2 quarts of Mobil 1 10w30, and 2 quarts of Mobil 1 15w-50 in my sump now. I gathered up all my stray bottles of Mobil 1 around the garage and mixed up this Mobil 1 brew. From what I understand all the Mobil 1 oils are compatible so there should be no harm. I think the 15w-50 does help a little with consumption. I'm going to have the oil analysed to see if I have any antifreeze in my oil. Never had my oil analyzed before.

I'll be moving to GC next interval to see how that does. If consumption is not acceptable with GC, I'm going to move to Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w40 formula.

yeah, and my two used oil analysis where i've done this haven't looked so great (high fe and al).

5w30 & 10w30 last summer, and 0w30 & 10w30 this winter. i had leftovers and was trying to get rid of them.

since i don't learn too quickly, i may try some 15w-50 the next time around.

or use the m1 suv oil straight up.

I didn't mix viscosities but, I just changed the oil on my car and used 3 qts Mobil 1R 0w30 cut with 1 qt Mobil 1 0W-30.

I was all excited to use Mobil 1R but had second thoughts about the high P levels and the effect it may have on my catalytic converter.

I'm wondering if I should have gone with a 50:50 mix; maybe at the next oil change.

The guys at M1 told me about a year or so ago that I could mix M1 together all I liked and everything would be fine. I was mixing the 5W30 and 15W50 in equal parts to brew up a 10W40ish oil. This seemed to work just fine for me until they came out with the 0W40 which seemed to cover what I was trying to do with the mix.

I was just gonna ask this question myself, i got 3 quarts of 10w30 and two of 5w30, so looks like i can mix these ok in my maxima.

I've done this for my wife's Subaru 2.2 Legacy.

This winter I mixed 3.2 quarts of the 5w30 with 1 qt. of 15w-50. The car seems to be quite fussy about oil. This brew has 6000+ miles on it. No consumption but it is getting a little dark for my taste. I might change filters and see what happens or I may drain it and try GC or the Delvac 1 / SUV version of M1.

FWIW this car seems to like thicker oil. I ran Delo 400 15w40 in it last summer and I plan to do it again. The car seemed to really take to this oil. Summer driving means 75 mph in 100 degree heat climbing from 4300 to 7800 feet daily.

When we lived in the Salt Lake Valley Chevron Supreme 10w30 did very well but not any more.

I have 3 quarts of 5w30 and 2 quarts of 10w30 in now.Only because i wasnt paying attention and grabed the wrong bottles off my shelf.So next oil change will get 2 quarts of 5w30 and 3 quarts of 10w30.Noticed i havent used as much oil compared to when i ran 5 quarts of 5w30 last time.

Ok, so we're missing the Aussie 5w50. Is Mobil 1 reading this? Give us the 5w50, a 15w40, and a 10w60 too!

Concerning the 0w30r, I don't see a problem with the additive package causing 02/catalytic death in a well maintained vehicle. This might only be a concern in rotary engines and vehicles with serious oil consumption issues.

There are phosphorous compounds available which will have no effect on the catalytic converter, but the API will still not certify an SL oil if the phos levels exceed a certain PPM, no matter what kind are used.

Viscosities can be mixed, and for all practical purposes, you just add up the high and low vis figures and divide by the number of units you are using. So 3 quarts of 10w30 and 3 quarts of 10w40 will yield a special 10w35 brew. I would reocmmend only doing this on a regular basis with oils mfrd by the same company, as one may reasonably infer that the base stcks and additive technology (including VII's if used) are similar if not identical.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I was probably being a little paranoid.

My '00 Acura 3.2TL's running perfectly, it hardly burns any oil at all. The week before I had a set of Comptech headers installed and put new O2 sensors just to be safe so I was a little concerned after I had put the 3 qts M1R.

I guess if Mobil was concerned, they would have put a warning on the label cautioning the use of M1R in cat equipped cars, just as a CYA.

I have using Mobil 1 15w50 to top-up, above the 4lt required to fill the sump on my GM 3.4L. The base is Mobil 1 5w30 or 10-30 depending on the season.

From what I've gathered, the Mobil 1 15W-50 has a much better HTHS and more stabile. For that reason, I mix up 50/50 5w30 and 15W-50 for my 5.4l F150.

I have been mixing 3 1/2 qts Mobil 1 5w30 with 1/2 qt Mobil 1 15w50 in my wife's 4-cylinder Mitsu Elipse Spyder. Been doing it for the last two oil changes prior to my current AutoRX treament/rinse. Was going to try the Redline 5w30 on her vehicle, but I just might go back to the Mobil 1 5w30/15w50 mix since the vehicle liked it and didn't consume any oil with it.

I am using the Mobil 1 15w50 in the 4-Runner. I add 150-200 ml to the 10w30 and it really makes a difference.
