Was at my families yesterday for Labor day and took a swing through the local Chevy dealer. Found a real nice 2001 Chevy 1500 extended cab with the Z71 package. I thought about it for a winter vehicle or for something to leave up at my grandparents. Thing is, it has 211K on the original Vortec 5300 (5.3L) What do you guys think of that many miles? TIA!

Not too bad on a 10 year old car. Probably lots of highway or at least warmed-up miles.

At that age and mileage, it all depends on the condition of the individual vehicle.

At about 20k/year, its probably had a fair number of highway miles, and if it was maintained well, it will most likely be fine. you just have to inspect it very carefully.

Looks like it had regular dealer oil changes every 5K (+/-) As well as a couple Tranny fluid changes. I'll see how far off the price is from KBB and report back

KBB still lists the price at $10,000. They are asking $6000 which is below, but I dont think its worth that much. Opinions?

A 2001 Z71? Yeah, I'd say that it's worth at least $6,000. Frankly, I'd look REAL hard at it (trying to find a fault) because $6,000 sounds to be too good of a price to me.

Looks to be in good shape, but it looks like the seats have seen 'hard' use - I'd worry about the power function continuing to work, but that's probably a minor worry.

Body and trim definetly seem to have been well looked after...I'd say it's a good buy overall.

Highway miles are easy on the motor. As for the rest of the car, not sure how that will hold up. There's plenty of those things still on the road though so they can't be total garbage.

Not going to be a great winter vehicle because the tail end is extremely light, FYI.

True, but I wanted something with 4WD because the F150 is a 2WD and I keep getting stuck

That's about right for that vehicle by me with those miles.

Find a better tire and don't worry so much. Tires are cheaper than a new truck.

I'd pass, for $3k-$4k I'd be a buyer which is probably about what the dealer paid for it.

You pay $6k for it today, 6 months from now the 200k+ mile transmission goes out, $2500. How long is the transfer case going to last? 300k? Maybe its a role of the dice.

Before you know it you own a 250k mile $10k truck, no thanks.

Ya, I'm most worried about the transmission. I think I'll find something with lower miles. Thanks all!!!
