There's another danger here that nobody has mentioned:
If you get into an accident, when the cop looks at your tires (and he will), then an accident that wouldn't have been your fault suddenly becomes your fault.
Your insurance company will NOT be impressed by your frugality.
So not only are you looking at an increased risk of an accident, you're also looking at an increased risk of liability, and a substantially increased risk of higher insurance premiums (or outright cancellation).
