Regarding the 92 Accord in my signature...
I have Valvoline VR1 Racing synthetic 10w30 in it right now (hey, it was free, why not?

) I have about 5k (about 4 months) on the oil. I normally don't go too far past 5-6k, but I feel I can go way longer with this oil and my current commute. I drive 33 miles each way to work, almost all highway. Just wondering how much further I can take this oil.

Also, when I do finally change it, I will be pouring in my remaining 2 quarts of the VR1 along with 2 qts of Napa synthetic 5w30 (50/50 mix). I should be good running that the same interval correct?

Valvoline's VR1 Racing Synthetic is the same as Synpower, but with additional ZDDP in the additive package. With your long commute, I wouldn't feel bad with a 7500-mile OCI.

As for your next oil change, does NAPA have a high-mileage synthetic? At 149K miles, maybe your engine needs some high-detergency action to clean out accumulated sludge. A blend of 5w30 Max Life Syn with the VR1 syn would be good for gentle cleaning over a 7500-mile OCI without doing a "Turbo-Laxative" flush all at once.

I was planning on using the Napa syn because I already have a large stash of it that I need to use up. This car shouldn't have a speck of sludge in it. It spent the first 120k or so of its life getting 3k mile changes with Valvoline Durablend.

I'd say it would do 10k easy. It's a stout oil, and Honda's are easy on oil.

Would LOVE to see a used oil analysis if you were thinking of doing one.....
