I ordered a couple Donaldson P169071 filters just for fun. How long can you run one of these in a clean gasoline engine?

That is what I figure. I really don't need such a filter I'd probably feel pretty guilty dumping it after 6k miles in the discovery but for $10.50 figure what the heck.

Surely the M1 5W-40 TDT can safely go longer than 6k miles in that engine. How many months does it take to go 6k miles? I think I would use both for longer before changing unless lots of very short trips. JMO

It probably can but these engines are tough on oil (heat and dilution) and have some fatal engineering flaws so I don't push it. I've already had to replace all gaskets, rebuild the heads, new tappets and pushrods etc. so I play it safe.

There have been a few UOAs done on discoveries and most show that they are fairly hard on oil. I think it is a combination of the aluminum block and heads combined with a fairly rich running engine that get's fairly hot for what it is (a buick V8).
