Do you use something different on your face?
Do you use bar soap on your body?
Do you use one of those round sponge things?
Do you use an anti-bacterial product?

When stranded on islands I roll in mud or sand.

Triclosan and most anti-bacterial agents should be banned as ingredient in soap.

Well, standard shower bar and one of those things that looks like what some girl should wear it in her hair scrubbers.

If I think I'm going to "get lucky" ..I snag some of the "body wash" stuff hanging around the shower just to show that I went through a little extra effort.

I used to make my own soap (superfatted with castor oil), and with tea tree oil as the fungicide/disinfectant.

Used to make a lot (my uncle with psoriasis was always after it).

Had a nasty incident with the lye on one batch...dunno what happened, but ended up doused with caustic...better half found me standing clothed in the shower (prepared the soap in the bathroom, just in case).

Now (until my OOs grow back), a tea tree soap, and whatever shampoo the boss has purchased.

besides, moribundman, I don't trust much with a bunch of benzine rings, and an MSDS (for use in cleaning steel) that recommends avoiding skin contact.

I would avoid soap, dish soap, deoderants, toothpaste, and mouthwash with triclosan. However, in case of people who suffer from gum disease, the advantages of toothpaste with triclosan may outweight the potential health risks.

Anti-bacterial products are mostly a marketing gimmick. Remember, human skin is crawling with bacteria, some of them good. There's a balance there that should not be disturbed. Anti-bacterial products destroy not only bad bacteria, but also the good.

Usually, regular soap and warm water are all that's needed. What's more important than the soap is proper washing technique.

moribundman, there's been some research down here on antibacterial surface sprays that shows a reduced effectiveness after prolonged use.

Seems there is always a transition phase in which the concentration is not enough to kill everything, and some bugs survive, to pass on genes resistant to whatever the disinfecatant is.

In addition, Doctors down under have increasingly been found to not be washing between every patient (regardless of product, that isn't good).

Shannow, resistance is a huge probem. If you kill bacteria and viruses, you better make sure to kill 100% and not just 99.9%. Some of the survivors will be resistant. Just look at the issues with antibiotics, which have over the decades become less effective or even ineffective in some people.

One product I find outright gross are those sanitzing hand lotions. In California, foodhandlers, who also touch money, do not have to wash their hands or wear gloves after handling money and before handling or preparing food. They may use a hand sanitizing lotion. I find this absolutely disgusting.

The place where you are most likely to get an infection is a hospital. One of the reasons I stay away from them!

Bar of Dial Gold soap on everything. Usually I don't bother with a washcloth, it just makes extra laundry. Then I shave in the shower when I'm done with everything else, it saves time. Been my system for 30 years now (I'm 44). I'm an extreme creature of habit.

I use good old Ivory soap, no fancy body washes for me (those things are a ripoff, they are nothing more than expensive shampoo!)

Funny you should mention this though, because yesterday I was in a hurry and for the first time I just used the shampoo I was lathering into my hair and continued using it on the rest of my body. Saved me a couple of minutes for sure.

That's a bit of a private question.....but I first thought it more of a spiritual question.

Soap. Prayer.

I Don't use a wash rag, loofah, or hair wungie because the wife screams when she finds them stuck with butt crusties and public hairs. I do use a nasty a$$ boar brush.

Just good old bar soap. Rinse the bar when done as well as the brush. Don't use brush on Private Johnson or load cells.

I think triclosan is a bad thing and choose hard bars w/o it. But using it doesn't mean instant death.

In winter my skin is especially dry. I'll use Dove with 1/4 moisturizer (not that it works) On my scalp I'll use some type of dandruff shampoo, usally alternating every few days. Right now I'm use Head and Shoulders. Any of the other brand and my head itches so bad I can't stand it.

I use a washcloth. And no specail face stuff.

Just a plain old bar of Jergens soap and a bottle of cheap shampoo (store brand). No wash cloth, no brush. On rare occasion when shampoo is out I can was hair with the bar soap.

Unfortunately as you get older you need to get rid of dead skin-especially on the feet. I have resorted to Scotch-Brite on my feet to get off dead skin. You can always use less abrasive pads specifically designed for removing dead skin. Dove soap for me. Not by choice-its what the wife gets. She is pretty much atuned to what makes skin healthy looking. I do use home-made soap every once in a while when I think I have contacted poison ivy

Thank you, Jelly. I do enjoy this "quality time" that we all have here discussing these matters.

Sparks - Try the refresh H&S. One pass and you know it's reached the scalp. I get dry scalp in the cooler months ..which is odd if you have hair that must be wash daily or it gets oily (I never figured out how some women could shower without shampooing their hair).

Peroxicare Arm&Hammer toothpaste is great for the receding gums. Seems to arrest the progress. However don't gargle with any strength of hydrogen peroxide ...at least not several days in a row. If you do, the fungus that is kept at bay by the bacteria, will grow unchecked.

You've gotta just sit in awe of the information age...

Fortunately I live near a car wash.

I ride my motorcyle through wearing speedos and try to remember to smile.

All that leaves me with is brushing the back of my teeth and the molars.

And for a few cents more I can get the wax, which has a nice scent that lasts all day, and gives a wonderful shine to the places where I used to have hair on top.
