How can syn blend be so cheap?

There are many users of this Korean Grp III. As I said before WPP is using it, and CP is selling it on the open market.

I view the CP marketing scheme of labeling their conventional oils "Synthetic Blends" as just that, marketing. Perhaps they are using a combination of Group I and Group III base oils to still make use of Group I capacity instead of upgrading to a Group II or II+ base oil plant. With most other companies their synthetic blends are an up-spec product with not only a better final base oil than the conventional products but perhaps a better additive package as well. CP is selling a very competitive conventional product while using marketing magic to make it look like an up-spec product.

I just picked up a few quarts of Kendall GT-1 for 1.49 per quart.

Its a no brainer at that pricepoint. They had a 30 cent off per quart rebate making it 1.19 per quart.

hey man, i see it says your in Buffalo... please tell me where you bought that Kendall oil. i like to buy my oil in Buffalo, since its nice and close for me across the Canadian border. i'm in Florida now, but i'll be flying back to Buffalo on Sunday and driving back across the border. please let me know where to pick up some Kendall oil before then. thanks!

Sure the place is called Valu Home Center. Its a home improvement store, but they usually put the kendall on sale a few times a year.

schaeffers is the only oil that is a blend that uses 25% synth oil. the blends are a good alternative to a full synth as far as I'm concerned.

But schaeffer's blend products combine 25% Grp IV with the balance of group III, right? Big difference basestock-wise with some of these other oils that are just a Grp II base with 10 or so of Grp III.

Thanks for any clarification,

JMH

Wrong info. At the time only XOM and COP stood up to Chavez. Chevron and BP are two of the larger companies that capitulated.
But thread has a little history on Phillips PCMO's.

In this thread and others add packs come up. I remember when I first startedon BITOG add packs were the advantage of synthetics. Robust add packs. What happened? SN for the most part depeted most. So if you want a pretty good add pack you have to buy PYB.Some synthetics are really bad add pack wise.

Here's info about the Korean Group III base oil CP imports and distributes:

I don't know if it is as wonderful as they claim.

A syn blend oil can be made from low quality G-III oil plus low quality conventional oil so the result just meets spec, add an ordinary additive package, and market it as something special synthetic blend. We know that the CP blends work as good as any conventional oil, so no problems, but likely nothing very special.
