I have some old programs that need to run under DOS 3.3 or 4.0.

My new laptop doesn't have a 3.5 floppy drive. I can't figure out how to format a USB drive to install DOS 3.3 system files.

Any ideas?

+1 on the VirtualBox idea: The virtual machine will be tiny, require minimal resources from the host machine and will be portable (VirtualBox runs on any OS you're likely to use). Especially given that you need only run a few applications it seems unnecessary to dedicate an entire (real) system to such a menial task.

Are you trying to install DOS directly to the hard drive or just emulate the DOS environment?

I say go with a virtual machine.
