I do similar with my "new oil" funnel and ATF funnel (yes, I have a dedicated new oil funnel and an ATF, the ATF is mainly because it is a very long one).
I have a dirty oil funnel as well, I use it to pour used oil from my drain pan into the 5qt jugs. I screws into Mobil 1 jugs perfectly.

I also have an "emergency" funnel under the hood of all my vehicles. They are stuffed with a clean paper towel and a rag wrapped around them. Used for top off only (and so far only my truck has needed it).

I miss those paper funnels gas stations used to have hanging like paper cup dispensers. Worked great for top off.

LOL I thought I was the only one who did that!

Nope

I do this too... In fact just did it today

Some stations near me offer them to me when I have bought Warren oil from their convenience store. A Exxon near Rte 199 does this.

Exactly. I only wipe them BEFORE adding fresh oil to a vehicle. I could care less if they got some dirt, bugs, or lint on them between oil changes. I carefully inspect the funnel before a drop of new oil is added.

Anyone think a quick lube or your local dealer is anal about their funnel cleanliness?

I probably shouldn't but I use a wiped down oil funnel for atf changes ....next time I will shell out 3 bucks for a new funnel though....you cannot be a cheap blank all the time

Add me ... I do that so that I can toss them back in the clear bag while still clean and not leaking oil ...

I thought I would see a lot more people using brake or carb cleaner to clean their funnel but that doesn't appear to be the case. Brake cleaner is really nice especially with a long funnel where it is impossible to get a paper towel through.

I get paper towels down the long neck funnels ... twist one end into a ight point ... toss inside ... and keep rotation on the towel (same direction that twisted it) as you pull it out the end ...

If I only had 1 funnel for all fluids, I probably would do that, but over the years I have bought enough (or stolen them from my wife

) to not need to.

After use , wipe them down and bag them in a Walmart plastic bag . Next time to use , wipe then down again before use .

I have a bunch of all sized plastic funnels and keep them in a plastic tub with a cover to keep the dust out. After use, I'll place them in a tub with a paper towel wad beneath it. and let it drip dry. I also have two turkey basters, one for brake fluid and one for power steering fluid.

Add me to the list of people that use brake cleaner. When I finish using it, I spray it liberally with brake cleaner and then stick it in a box in the garage so it doesn't attract any dust.
