Easy enough to understand in a world of the wall of orange. With good enough marketing, quality and price don't count.

As for the Mac's graphics, the guy at Home Depot was very impressed with the drawing I took in the other day. Yeah, made on a Mac, a 10 year old Power Mac using ClarisWorks which Apple was bundling with Macs then.

I don't have a printer yet for this PC. I have a Mac to PC serial cable, but I doubt I can find a Linux driver for the Stylewriter II I am using with the Mac. I also haven't learned to use Kdraw.

labman, if you are going to do drawing, graphics and work on digital photographs with a Windows Computer, I would suggest at least getting Photoshop Elements (which I am sure is available for the Windows platform), a PHOTO printer, use a digital camera with at least 3 mp, and of course photo paper.

I suggest a Windows computer can do well enough with photos, given a good enough photo image program and photo printers. It is easy to choice a Windows computer if you can get one, flat screen and all, for around $1000.00 bucks, and that will buy just an eMac or iMac.

So you are a Mac guy too, huh? Great. I have an older desktop and an eMac. I was thinking about selling both and getting a G5.

There are relatively few people today who use the Mac, and they don't have a clue what they are missing. Best computer that there is.

I have now been using Macs for a long time. Everybody I know who is really into computer graphics uses the Mac and Photoshop, or at least the Mac and Photoshop Elements.

My brother-in-law is a long time engineer. He has been involved in Space Shuttle launches and Delta and Titan launches. He is the only enginner working for his company who has used a Mac in addition to other computers. His oldest son is a computer consultant who told me that the only Mac operating system he would like to have is Mac OS X. Actually the Clasic operating systems were pretty good.

The Mac is big time in some fields-most people just do not know it. Much in the way of computer graphics, advertising, magazine layout, video recording, etc., just would not be the same if people had to struggle with Windows computers. Long live the Mac!

If a company wants for its graphics artists to be able to produce good work, then Macs at least in that department make sense. The overwhelming number of computer grpahics artists I am familiar with use the Mac. Surely giving 12 graphics artists Macs will not break the company bank.

it isnt that the mac is better at graphics and image/video editing, it is that most of the applications used for such things are built for a mac, and only ported to windows. if we had windows applications that were fully optamised for intel and amd processors and platforms, and mearly ported to a mac, it would be the other way around. the mac would not be so great.

anyways, i have run macs and windows and linux and guess what i prefer? linux! i am a microsoft certified system engineer, and i run linux!
well most of the time. my digi cam and web cam dont work with linux. there isnt a good messenger for msn that works on linux, my printer (barely) works with linux. so i use windows when i need to, but for average things, linux is kinda slick.

a mac otoh.. there is a reason i dont have a mac in the house. they are not built for someone like me. their hardware and software support is abismal, kind of like linux. hmm i wonder why...

Things may change pretty soon. IBM is advertising Linux big time. I hear that they are going to try to go completely or nearly completely Linux and open source. This is a big challenge to Microsoft. And IBM makes the chip used in Apple's G5, so I wonder what all of that means.

Seems to me that Mac OS X could sort of be considered the most developed graphical user interface for Unix, BSD, or Linux.

What sort of things do you think IBM might be considering? A platform that could run Linux, maybe Mac OS X, and perhaps even Windows?
