There are currently two decent deals on oil:
Advance Auto parts 5qts Mobil 1 plus Mobil 1 filter for $29.99
and
AutoZone 5 quarts of Quaker State FULL Synthetic Oil and Bosch Filter for $26.99
Based on peoples experiences, is it better to go with either deal over the other or maybe do both?

I'd say the Mobil 1 deal is a much better value, esp if you can get Mobil 1 Extended Performance at that price. The Mobil 1 oil filter alone cost about $10.00. Mobil 1 Extended Performance in my area is about $7.00 a quart, so you're getting $45.00 of products for $29.99.

The Quaker State oil I can get for $5.00 a quart and a Bosch filter is about $5.00 each. So, that's $30.00 of products for $26.99.

I won't discuss the merits of the oils because I don't use either, so it's up to you to decide which brand you prefer.

At Advance the Mobil 1 filter costs even more then that now, 12 to 13 dollars depending on filter. The EP at the Advance a friend works at it is also 8.79 a quart. So you save quite a bit going with that deal. If the regular Mobil 1 is 7 a quart, you save 5 dollars and get a filter free.

I do not know about that and can't answer but I have used them with no problem. I will cut open the one on my car now when I change oil.

That's Valvoline's marketing dept promoting their products over the #1 competitor. It's been discussed on the forum ad nauseum; there is a long thread on the subject in the main oil forum.

I went there yesterday, and as I had suspected, it was a PITA. First, they didn't have much of the 5w30 EP. I asked them to look, all they have is the quart bottles and not the 5 quart jugs. Of course, the popular filter sizes for the popular cars, were sold out. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.
