I had to take my mother this afternoon to pick up her new eyeglasses. She can't get in my 300M, so we took the Olds van. As we were driving through town I looked up at the overhead console and the thermometer said 118F. That's the highest temp I've ever seen on that thermometer. When we got back I checked the thermometer in the back yard and it said 112F, so that 118F on a busy and hot city street was probably correct.

We aren't allowed to talk about .. you know .. (global warming)

Any more of this and I will have to shut the thread down

It's been a real bear, hasn't it? I saw 111F in the shade the other day. Official temp at the airport was reported at 104F.

You're just up the road (so to speak) from me, so I know you guys up in Charlotte have been getting it bad, too. Today was the 9th day this month where the temp has been 100F or higher.

We hit 99F on Aug. 1, and we have had 99F or higher everyday since. Had a little front come through around 5:30PM . Lots of wind and a little rain. First rain we had since mid July. Forecast for tomorrow is 97F. Glad my A/C works well.

On the other hand, outside on my deck, with a lovely view of Lake Washington( if you stretch and peek throught the cedar branches)
The day's high temp was 63 degrees yesterday. Today, maybe 73 or so.

104 at my desk last week. Even though the past few weeks have been tough, we've had a pretty good summer here (and a really mild winter). I'd rather deal with this than with winter for 6 months of the year. For those into winter sports, that isn't a bad thing I guess.

G-Man,

You should be down here in the armpit of SC. The only thing separating Columbia and h--l is a screen door!

I was in Columbia on Sunday...well, I drove by it on my way to Gaston. I had to go down to interview three witnesses for a case. I think the highest temp I saw on my overhead console was on the way back. On I-26 coming out of Columbia it was 99F.

BTW, I really like Columbia...always have.

It's been horrible here the last couple of days! Today it only got up to 64F and it's been windy and drizzling all day too. But yet later this week it's going to warm up again and it'll be in the high 80s/low 90s again, like it has been for most of this summer here.

Official temps spewed by weather guessers on radio, TV, etc. are from sensors located in the shade in a grassy area.

Obviously hotter in areas with buildings, pavement, etc.

And, if not already aware of micro-climates check out the "heat island" syndrome found in cities.

Y'all gonna' bake.

Shake and bake!!!!

If average temps continue to rise, watch out for the influx of malaria and other tropical diseases.

Buy stocks in firms selling DEET-based products, air conditioner manufacturers and electricity distributors.

Born in Charlotte, soon discovered I was allowed to leave, so headed for the coast. Came out here in 2000, and haven't missed the heat. Just the BBQ, warm ocean water, actual beaches....

It's been at least 100F for the last 15 days or so. Upper 90's the last 3-4 weeks. And ZERO rain.

The good thing about this HOT high pressure over the southeast portion of the U.S. is soley that Hurricane Dean couldn't hit the U.S. mainland. All in all, that's a good thing.

Now that the Hurricane is almost defunct, I'd like some rain.

Crunchy brown grass isn't too fun.
