Horrible NTB Oil Change Experience

Not the other employees, just the manager. It was the district manager that gave me the free stuff, not him. This guy had an attitude from the first time I went in so I return the favor every 3 months when I get the company car's oil changed. It's not something I would do if I did not have to go in there for other reasons. It's fun for me....

IMHO, I'd still be PO'd, too, if I wasn't properly compensated for a change of Amsoil and an EaO filter. Free carwashes don't compare.

Free car washes! They'll scratch the heck out of the car! It's not worth it! Wash it yourself or take it to a reputable car wash place at worst. When I was getting my oil changes done at my Ford dealer they offered to wash my cars and trucks for free. I said thanks but no .

Exactly! With all the Toyota engines I have the oil filler cap takes about three full revolutions to tighten. It is literally impossible for the cap to vibrate off as it is always tight on all of the engines (4).

NTB stands for "Not Too Bright" IMO and they are one of the main reasons I do my own oil service as I have had to return many times to get work done that I paid for that was never done. The last time was a couple of years ago when I went for an oil change and tire rotation and they didn't change the oil filter or rotate the tires. The way I knew was because I put a wix napa gold filter on with the previous change and it was still on there dirty as ever. Plus I had one black tire valve stem cap because I lost one silver one. I went back to the Manager and he just looked at me cross eyed and agreed to rotate the tires but insisted the oil filter was new. I went home and the tech has wiped the dirt off the old filter with a rag but missed the spot behind the filter where it is too close to the oil pan to get your hand around

Then I put a torque wrench on the lug nuts and all were around 35-55 ft lbs whent the book called for 120-140ft lbs.

That was it for me. I'll never go back there again.

NTB was contacted early Friday morning. The situation was explained and the car was brought in for a look over. They said it was common for Toyota Highlander's oil cap to come loose with regular driving. They did not take blame for not installing it properly. Regardless, they replaced the cap (OEM part), changed the oil/filter, and degreased/cleaned/pressure washed the engine compartment free of charge.

I will be honest, I was amazed at how they handled the situation. The manager was calm and understanding of the situation and handled it in a professional manner. Despite being put in the situation because of NTB, their customer service is top notch.


The oil cap excuse is lame, but they did do what should have been done to resolve the issue.

Those oil caps are sneaky, they always seem to unscrew themselves and roll off into the horizon, never to be seen again. I solved that by using a 710 cap instead.
