Guys, I am hoping you can help me solve this one. 2006 corolla. Horn does not work when I press the steering wheel button. However, the car's alarm beeps when I press the key fob. Beep also stops when I take out the horn fuse.

So I suspect it's either the horn pad button or a horn relay. Where can I find the horn relay? It was not in the same box as the horn fuse. Is it under the dash?

Is there a way to test the horn pad? Is there a switch or button under the airbag that I can short to make sure I am getting current to the horn pad?

Thanks!

Look into the design a little if you have a shop manual. If you have other controls on the steering wheel (like cruse control) it probably has a "clockspring". This is essentially a ribbon cable that winds and unwinds as you turn the wheel. It carries the signals from the steering wheel. They're pretty reliable, but they can break.

I have a cruise control stick on the steering wheel. It works fine though. So I have to take apart the steering column to see if the clock spring has continuity?

I would assume there would be terminals on the back of the horn pad that I can short to see if the pad is working right?

The horn button is probably an input to your security or body control module. A relay is a couple bucks and they'd only use one as they're expensive, so your problem lies somewhere in between.

Unless the alarm module has its own relay, I guess, with a "pass through/ my turn" option.

If your horn relay located in the dash fuse box press the horn button(Steering air bag.) and listen to the horn relay clicking noise then you know the horn relay is working and horn button is working. Now you need to look at the secondary side.It could be either the defective horn or wiring from horn relay to the horn or horn relay contact points.
The second test is if you can get access to the horn, then disconnect the horn wiring connector and connect a test light across the connector terminals and see the light comes on when you press the horn button.if the light does comes on the you need a new horn if the light doesn't comes on the it could be the horn relay contact points or wiring poor connection in between horn relay and horn.

Horn rely terminal 86 and 85 power and ground to the relay winding.Terminal 30 and 87 power out put to the horn.
Normally 30 is power and 87 goes to the horn.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll have a few leads to work on today
