To the best of memory my 06 Silverado has always "sounded" lock or unlock with a double depression of the key fob. Its still working when i unlock the truck with the fob and the horn sounds/chirps, but ive noticed lately that the horn is not sounding when i depress the FOB to Lock the truck.. it still locks, im just not getting the audible horn chirp when I depress the lock button on the FOB.

to sum up horn sounds when unlocking with FOB, horn doesnt sound when Locking with the FOB.

to the best of my memory the horn always sounded both ways locking and unlocking with this factory option.

I did just turn 36 this week, maybee it never sounded when locking with the FOB.. but hopefully im not loosing it

thanks for your input.

Should be something you can program from within the cab using the unlock button, the fob, and the owners manual.

lol, thanks, i will look at the manual a little closer tomorrow and see what it says, im sure it always sounded as i can recall walking away and hitting the FOB and getting the horn/chirp.. Im a little suprised some of our BITOG g0-to know it all's havent tackled this one ??

thanks for your input.

you have it backwards.

Horn only sounds when you lock the truck to let you know it's locked. When you unlock the truck, you are usually standing next to it so you can hear the door unlock. I think the lights flash both times to let you know, and to help find your car in a parking lot in the dark. If you want to find your truck by sound, just hit the lock button twice and you will hear the deeps.

One day I noticed my steering wheel was not locked with the ignition key out. I thought the steering wheel lock had broken, but I wasn't sure. I asked my friend (Chevy/GM mechanic) if the steering wheel on my truck is suppose to lock. He said none of them lock, but I could have sworn that mine did. It is the same thing with your FOB horn. It's the onset of Alzheimers, or something like that: I can't remember.

On second thought, your truck might have a programmable feature that lets you decide when you want it to deep. You set things like that up in funny ways with GM vehicles. If you hit the right sequence of buttons, you could have re-programed the beep feature.

I will ask my Chevy mechanic friend this weekend. You can also try asking on www.chevytalk.com in the appropriate year truck forum.

Man i could have sworn that it beeped when i locked it with the FOB.. ive had the truck 4 years, youd think i could remember that little detail, Im so sure that ive been walking away from my truck before and hit the lock button twice and got chirps..

You said "UN-locked" first, now you say "Locked"

Yes, thats right,if my memory serves, it used to sound off both ways (locking and unlocking) now its only sounding when unlocking, thus my problem is im not getting a audible horn chirp while locking the truck with the FOB.

i may have to stop at Chevy to confirm im not loosing it...

Don't you think annoying everyone around with the horn beeping once is enough. Mine just clicks and does a quick flash of the lights and I am satisfied with that. My neighbor has one of those that always honks and its no fun when they come home at 1 am Saturday and their darn horn beeps.

my closest neighbor is several hundred yards away through the woods, I live way out in the sticks, nobody to offend with my horn but the wildlife. I like this feature on my truck for store parking lots. When your hustling and juggling kids around its easy to forget to lock your doors..

I see "NY" im sure in your part of our country things are always loud and annoying.

After double checking Im correct, the horn sounds when unlocking the truck, but not when locking it..

I didnt have a chance to call Chevy today yet, see if i can beat the clock.
