The Defense filters are made by Fram.
How they could cheapen the orange filter any is beyond me.
No anti-slip paint and no advertising maybe the trick.

That could be. They are plane white with no grip paint.
I can't speak for all of Defense's part numbers, but in Canada last year the DL4967 oil filter that was previously Made in Canada was quietly switched to Made in China. To notice the difference you have to look VERY closely at the back of the box. The printing is small. Some part numbers were still Made in Canada and USA. I guess it is buyer read the fine print and watch out.
Visually the new DL4967 Made in China filter looks better than some other Chinese filters I have seen, but as we all know outside looks are very deceiving.
strangely enough, the defense filters have a better quality construction vs. the OCOD, even though the guts are the same.. the casing is a stronger design. as much as I dislike fram, I've used these defense filters and they hold up pretty darn well.
