Image temporarily removed for "repairs". Paul, just go ahead and post a properly sanitized version lower down.

It is a street legal dual sport, air cooled. Used primarily on the road, so far, but has seen some work off-road.

The moly there is twice what I've heard is the maximum "safe" level for a wet clutch bike. Does that bike have a wet clutch? And if so, did you experience *any* slippage at all?

I emailed Redline before installing the oil and they assured me that the moly wouldn't have any negative effect on the clutch (it is a wet clutch) as they use a different moly compound than the typical energy conserving oils have. Anyway, the bike does not have any slippage of the clutch, even under heavy load.

Its a 2005 model and Honda specs a 10W30 oil as acceptable for the temperature range I operate in. Next spring I'll probably run a 10W30 initially in the colder temps and then move to a 15W40 HDEO.

Yes, I realized I forgot to do that after I had posted. Problem is, there is no way to edit it out on this site.

Here is the report again.

I had one of these for a few years some time back. Honda hasn't changed this (other than colors) for YEARS. It's a very reliable bike; kinda ol' skool! It's air cooled and has a dry sump lube system; it carries the oil in the front down tube. It gets HOT HOT HOT when you run it hard.

A HDEO of 15w-40 would be very appropriate; I ran Rotella at the time because I also had an older '87 diesel Escort and diesel tractors, so diesel oil was plentiful at my home at the time. Better yet, run a synthetic HDEO if you can find some on sale at WallyWorld. Any good brand will do.

The only way to break this bike is to drop it off a very high cliff (don't ask how I know!).

Ya, the bike's simplicity and the fact that it has been in production for a long time are a couple of the reasons why I chose this particular bike. I just love it, too. I'll be doing a few mods to "uncork" the engine which will give smoother power and probably allow it to run a bit cooler as well. Most bikes today are factory set to run very lean.

My intent is to use a cheaper HDEO 15W40 oil and change it every 800 to 1,000 miles to ensure that the oil is always as close to proper viscosity as possible. I'll change the filter at every third change.

Anyone has tried HM M1? It is tough oil and priced same as shell 5W-40. I am trying it in my Honda 919 and the thing runs even quieter than with M1 4T with super glinding shifter.
