Hey guys,
I have an 2000 accord SE ( 2.4L Vtec) and it keeps reporting p1486 check engine code.
It comes back every 1000 miles, and looking it up online it seems to be either faulty Thermostat or ECM.
Now, I changed the coolant about 3 months ago with a long life peak , and car has NO overheating problems. Should I just let it be?
A question I cant figure out is that can this error cause a misreading of coolant temp for long period of time? I know p1486 is pushed out by ECU when liquid temps mismatched for a short period of time , but what about in long run?
Could my car be overheating and ECU not detecting it?
The car has 99K on it so it hasn't been pushed too hard, most of the services has been done by me routinely ( oil , tran , coolant, ect) but at 14 years old things are going to slowly go bad.
Also it has had one semi-major accident that my old mechanic had to change out all the front parts ( radiator, fender , ect ) So radiator , AC pipes and fans are NON OEM and he bought cheap parts. I know that for a fact , he said nothing is wrong with breaks but another reputable mechanic changed the master cylinder and breaks are FANTASTIC now.
Anyways , my intuition says if no other code , or overheating happens just let it be. What do you guys think?
Its not an expensive or overly complicated repair for Thermostat but I've never done it before.
Thanks
