I have a 2003 Honda 5 speed manual transmission which had the Honda MTF type 1 as the original fill. I ran it for 15K miles and changed it with Honda MTF type 2. The transmission was smoother with the type 2, lower viscosity fluid. I changed it again at 30K and, this month at 45k with type 2 fluid. I have no problems with shifting. It performs well in winter temperatures.
I have seen some analysis of Honda type 1 fluid that would suggest that it sheers 2 units per 10K miles. I have not seen any analysis of type 2 fluid. Does anyone know if Honda type 2 fluid sheers like their previous fluid? I am considering changing over to Redline or Amsoil on the next change, if their fluids do not sheer as quickly and run 30K miles.
