Honda Motor Mount

Looking into replacing the front Motor Mount on my 2001 Honda Accord (118,000 miles). The rubber bushing is cracked and the metal mount is showing age. No metal to metal contact yet, just a sincere crack in the ruber through the bushing.

Here's my question: At nearly 10 years old, the Accord probably has a few things that could be replaced. So how important is the motor mount? Is it something critical? I'm sure bad mounts are common on older cars, so is it worth replacing? Yes, I plan to keep the car for at least the near future.

Fix it, you'll feel the improvement when you hit the gas at a stop sign and you go forward instead of having the motor flop around. Not to mention it'll feel smoother.

Yes, of course! Not only the timing belt but the water pump along with all scheduled maintenance since the vehicle was new. Unlike some folks, I know my vehicle. That being said, my question was about my Motor Mount. Not about timing belts, oil pumps, 02 sensors or even tires. Moving on...

At this point, not keen on throwing too much money into my car. Just wasn't sure the mount ranked up there with a "required" fix.

It's important. I had my Honda's bottom mount replaced and it fixed the engine shake at idle. The other mounts were fine, though.

berniedd, when your mount was bad, did you notice more engine shake (vibrating sounds) when you used the AC (especially at idle)? Just curious. Mine seems to vibrate more when I operate the AC - which I assume the new mount will help quite.

Makes a huge difference in smoothness. Dealer charged me $500 to change 2 in my 02 Accord fyi.

Firestone is charging me $156 to replace the front mount (parts and labor). It's a little pricey but Firestone is walking distance from my office, so I can get it done while at work. Worth the extra few bucks.

$156 doesn't sound too bad to me. It's probably $50-60 for the part and an hour of labor. For that cheap, I'd go ahead and have it done.

I would insist on paying extra for a Honda mount. I have had very poor experiences with aftermarket mounts from Anchor and DEA.

Nope, no difference in engine shake with or without the aircon on. It was the bottom left mount, and was discovered when changing the timing belt.

About five years ago I replaced the front and rear motor mounts on my '89 Accord with Genuine Honda mounts, now the engine runs smooth as new. The entire car used to shake violently when stopped.

I had an '88 Accord a/t that would shake violently when at a stoplight and new motor mounts did little. There was a TSB in the late 80's early 90's about a new superceding design motor mount that would help with the vib's. You must have the new motor mount design. I still put on 340K on this little animal with out many issues.

Carb or EFI?

I loved these Accords and I still know them quite well. I had a '94 too but I liked the '88 better.
They had these viberation issues with the 86-89 Accord automatic transmissions. Other years too but, these were the worst!
And I knew others with 86-89 Accord autos that didn't have any issues.

I used to love the older Honda's. Had a Civic too! I would have owned more Honda's but my wife doesn't like their comfort. She likes their style though but, I don't!...Can't agree!

Mine was always this way when I got it, it has some rust in the rear wheel wells but I think it has a couple of years left in it. I've owned it since I was 15 (currently 21). And it is an EFI.
