I forgot and apologize ahead of time, but on my 2003 Odyssey is the OCI Maintenance minder a set mileage of 6000 miles, 6500 miles, etc.??

Per Honda owner's guide.....

Between 6,000 miles (9,600 km) and 7,500 miles (12,000 km) indicator will light for two seconds when you first turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and then flash for ten seconds.

If you exceed 7,500 miles (12,000km) without having the scheduled maintenance performed, this indicator will remain on as a constant reminder.

Maintenance Schedule: Replace engine oil (5w20) every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or 1 year. If you use synthetic, the oil change interval is still 7,500 mi.

So if the guide says between 6,000 and 7,500 miles, does the ecu have some sort of smarts to calculate any important factors into the OCI change? eg Cold starts, short trips, etc.

05Blazer,

I couldn't say about the new Hondas now a days but when I had mine during my college years it was a simple color coded set-up based on a certain set of miles. I'm driving my Chevy Impala now and I use it religiously as here in California everything about cars is expensive including gas AND I must admit I pinch pennies just to make it to my next maintenance schedule. My goal is to do my OCI's oil to the max. That's why I prefer a synthetic.

My two cents to you is to use your maintnenace minder! It's a great tool and will save you a few bucks in the process.
