Honda HR216 - Side Discharge

My yard is Bermuda grass and this mower has a hard time mulching and will leave clumps. That presents another level of yard work to either blow or rake the trail of clumps. Thinking if it could actually discharge the clippings it would scatter them and not lead to clumps. As it is set up now, it will only bag or mulch. Not going to bag. The gathered clippings would have to be taken to a disposal sight. Our area does not pick up yard waste.

Found this online, there doesn't seem to be any reason why it wouldn't work. As far as not needed to rake now, you'd have to try it to prove that out. I have a feeling you'd have to rake the entire lawn, but I don't know as again, I don't have a chute.

Those Honda side shoots don't shoot very far. It's serviceable if the grass isn't very tall, and if the grass is dry. I was never happy with the results I got out of the side shoot. My experience, Honda mowers are at their best when bagging. Mulching is second best, and side shoot, marginal at best.

Thanks. I’ll take heed.

Yeah I don’t think you’ll be happy with the amount of clippings and the rows that thing is going to leave behind. I don’t have Bermuda experience but have used one of those in the past to just cut down some really tall grass when I was a kid and the owners didn’t care how it looked. It was fine for that as the mower didn’t bog and I didn’t have to empty a bag every 5 feet but it looked terrible.

My Ferris 52” just discharges out the side but it spreads them over a pretty wide area so it doesn’t look bad vs what I’ve seen with a homeowner push mower.

Skip it. The discharge will be slow and will leave a trail. Raise the deck and or cut more often. Also raise the gov to 3600 rpm over the factory 3300. Do not go 4k. It will do it but I'm nervous of the flywheel.

The gov adjustment is interesting. Any pointers to share would be appreciated.

The Honda side discharge chute will be adequate if your property is level and not rutted. It bounces over rough and uneven terrain and can dislodge itself if the lawn is bumpy.

I have the tach. The “simply raising” the RPMs is what I’m curious about. Is there a high speed adjustment or tweaking the governor linkage?

I left the details out as certain models with no throttle cable you simply "bend" the the linkage the spring attaches to, essentially increaseing the tension on the spring. Other models with a cable thrittle, there can be a adj screw that limits the max posisiotn

The common way to adjust the speed is to rotate the governor flapper in the pinch attachment. There are lots of youtube videos showing how to make this adjustment. That said, I'd never do this just to increase throw through the discharge shoot. That's not a proper fix.
