Hmmm. los of mixed replies. It DID get good crash test ratings from IIHS. Maybe we will have to drive one and find out. Thank you all for your replies!

The needle was a little above the 1/2 mark when filled up w/ Valero 87 w/ 10% ethanol at 1 click of gas nozzle and took 5.313 gallons and needle was a bit above the full mark . Drove 196.4 miles and the display showed overall average gas mileage of 36.8 . The calculated mileage was 36.55 . Fairly accurate for last 2 fills . Very pleased with FIT so far . The oil life dropped to 90(?) at around 1,200 miles ( will correct the oil life reading if wrong ) . Tires are set at 35 p.s.i..

Here's the MSDS sheet for the ATF-DW1 from IDEMITSU . http://www.worldpac.com/tagged/HONDA_DW-1_ATF_08200-9008_OES_(USA)_and_CA66844_OES_(Canada).pdf .

Ours has been replaced once due to a rock hit. Our foglights have also taken a beating from debris. Thankfully those are protected by Xpel protective film that shows where it's deflected debris.

If you haven't done it, get the film for the foglights, and put some mesh into the lower grille to protect the A/C condenser. We did, and it's saved us a LOT of money/time/hassle.

That is good mileage. Can you describe your driving habit? I do mostly road driving on the interstate. IM trying to look at newcars now. I think the Fiesta is rated higher b ut Im always interested in real world figure. Thank you for information.

We do pulse and glide . Let it coast on grades and to stop signs and stop lights . We also do slow accelerating . Got these habits from owning an '07 PRIUS ( not '06 as stated in other posts , sorry ) . The last fill got us 38.8 m.p.g.with the 5 speed auto . Could do better with the 5 speed manual that starts at around $15,600 . The FIT has been very enjoyable thus far . Problem is many dealers are not giving discounts on these . You do get alot for the money . Even w/o a discount .

The base model FIT with the 5 speed auto got 39.94 m.p.g. ( calculated ) on a fill of 3.811 gallons of Valero 87 w/10% ethanol . There was 152.2 miles and the needle was little under the 3/4 mark . The display showed 41.1 for overall average and 90% for the oil life at 2,120 miles . Tires are set at 35 p.s.i.. This included 2 people , 70+ m.p.h. on occasion and many hills . Have noticed that fills of less gas make for a lower reading for overall gas mileage and fills of 9+ gallons are above the display reading of overall gas mileage .

I'm interested in more information about "quick fluid degradation" on the ATF-Z1. I have two Hondas with that fluid in the trannys. One is at 45k miles and has already had the ATF replaced and one is at 68k miles on the original ATF. I have plans to replace that fluid at 70k.

For whatever reason, the Fit's AT is very rough on Z1. I'm not sure if it's a Fit issue or a Z1 issue. The shifting degraded quite a lot in 15k miles, and again noticeably in another 10k miles. Putting in a different ATF made the shifting more consistent, and consistent for the duration of the change interval.

Huh, interesting. I wonder if there's something different about the Fit's AT. Is it a 5AT...presumably the same one they use throughout their line (such as in Accord, CR-V, etc)?

Yes, 5 speed AT. I don't think it's similar, since the Fit's engine bay is CRAMPED side to side. It's also much more a "world" car slightly modified to meet US standards than the Accord or Civic.

I could be wrong in its being similar/non-similar.

That's weird. Haven't even thought about a tranny fluid change in mine at 60k. But mine's been so relatively easy to live with that I've become one of those OLM/maintenance minder followers. Then I just throw in a mix of whatever 7 yr old SL in on my shelves w/ some arx.

From what I have read, this is not a good idea. Overfilling will flood the vapor capture system and not only you will pollute but you will have a vapor smelling vehicle. Just stop when it clicks and drive away pls.
