"Let's see - - buy the Honda team for $1.44, rip out the Honda engines, put in Mercedes engines, set on the pole and win the first two races of the season."

1999Nick, I assume you know better but in the interest of clarification I must say the car is all-new for 2009. It's the design that Ross Brawn spent all of last year pouring over. I doubt it has ANYTHING in common with the horrendous 2007 & 2008 clunkers.

The FIA camera seems to be the same.

You are quite right. However, remember that Ross Braun was a Honda employee last year and spent the year mainly developing this year's car on Honda's dime. If Honda had not decided to get out of F1 and give away the team, it would still have had Honda engines. Thus, this year's Braun team would have been this year's Honda team, minus the Mercedes engines.

To bring the score up to date, they have now won 6 out of the first 7 races this year. Makes one wonder how to apportion credit for Michael Schumacher's record with Ferrari between Michael and Ross Braun.

steady regulations help champions repeat
It does make me wonder what BrawnGP would be like this year with the only change being a Honda powerplant.

They (Honda) must have seen the results of ongoing tests during development of this chassis with Honda engines (and maybe later, with Mercedes power.) Something tells me that if it were still Honda powered, none of us would be talking about the Brawn team this year unless they got in the way when a front-runner was lapping them. At some point during development some of the Honda execs must have asked about those mysterious crates in the corner with shipping labels stating "F1 powerplant enclosed/this side up." And maybe a subdued three pointed star. LOL.
