Honda Element owners: what is your avg. MPG?

My wife's 2006 Element averages around 21-22 around town. Best I ever got on a long trip was 27 mpg. Ours is an AWD and I understand the FWD only version gets a little better mileage. Great vehicles, very trouble free.

I traded my '07 EX 4WD in on a 2009 CR-V EX 4WD back in November last year. Here are my averages:
Before Mods: City: 20-21 MPG
Mixed: 23-24 MPG
Highway: 26-27 MPG
After Mods: City: 17-18 MPG
Mixed: 21-22 MPG
Highway: 25 MPG

The mods I had was an Aires Brush guard and Tail light guards and OEM Honda Side Steps.
The best tank I ever got was 32.5 MPG all flat straight highway and the worst I ever got was 14.5 MPG all city/stop and go with AC blasting.

I loved my Element. Great vehicle for hauling stuff but doors started to get to be a pain with carrying more people. I hit a deer and it never felt the same after getting fixed so that's why I traded it in. I would definitely still have it now and for years to come if the deer wouldn't have ran in front of me. lol

I realize it's a little O/T, but while I find the Element an interesting vehicle, it's four passenger limit is an absolute show-stopper/interest termination factor for me. We have FIVE people in the house. End of story. Why Honda couldn't have found a way to put a belt in there for the 5th passenger is beyond me. For this reason alone, I can't even maintain a shred of a fantasy of ever buying an Element... Oh well.

Yeah it would have been great to have a 5th passenger belt, but that really isn't the whole reason of the vehicle. The whole thing of the Element is to throw all your gear in an go.
That is exactly why I bought it. I hauled so much in that car and never had a problem. From stoves, dishwashers, to couches and TV's. I never had a problem loading it. Every thing always fit.
When we would go biking 1 other person would come with me and everyone else's bikes would go in my Element.
Camping was just plain awesome. All the seats laying down to make a bed and the huge sunroof in the back.
The driving position, is the one thing I miss most about my Element, was awesome! It felt like you were in a truck. High up and you got bounced around and had those huge front windows that blasted you with air.
From the time I had my Element to today, the way I see it, people either hate or like the Element. If they hate the Element they can't find a single thing about it they like or they see would make a good car. but the people that like it, absolutely love it.
But I do agree with you the 5th passenger seat belt would have been nice, but it is still an awesome vehicle.

friend told me his element averages about 20-22 mixed. i'm suprise how short the 5th gear is. 70mph is 3k rpms i believe

It seems like a clown to car to jam 5 people into.

Interestingly concept by Honda. They try and appeal to the young folks and I have yet to see anyone under 45 driving one.

That is what they say, but don't tell my 25 year old son that. He folds up the back seats and loads that thing up with musical equipment plus one other band member and away he goes.

My wife's Element has made many trips to Texas with four FULL sized adults and stuffed full of luggage without any problems.

They are square, funky looking, and we love them.

I am 19, I loved my Element. Most people I see here in Ohio are under 40. Even when I drive around to other states they still aren't that old driving them. Its a great young persons vehicle.

To the OP, I'd say the fuelly link is your best bet.

As others have noted, hauling passengers was not the intention. My friend had one and he said that he could put his mountain bike in the back, with both tires on it, standing up. Try that with most any other vehicle out there.

The contrarian in me has to ask why you didn't plan your family around how Honda was going to design their vehicles?

wow, those are some great mpg#s for element,
drive what you want, most drug dealers/crooks drive expensive sports cars, hence I don't have any ;-)

Typically, In Europe the wagon model is for young (aktiv) people and the sedan is for old geezers.

Well, being an old geezer I can tell you that it does not make me feel 21 to drive ours. But they give this old geezer good visibility and they are easy to get in and out of, and I have never owned any car in my lifetime that has been more trouble free than my Elements. The only negative thing I can say is I don't particularly like the color that my wife picked for hers. If you look in that fuelly thread listed above, go to the 2006 model year and hers is pictured. The lime green one.

Actually it is this one right here.

LOL I love that color! That's the color I wanted; the lime green one. But they didn't have any when I was in the market. I ended up getting the Alabaster Silver Metallic.

I guess I don't fit into the demographic then as I'm 56 years old! I bought the Element mainly as a dog hauler for my Golden Retriever, Emmi. With the back seats folded up her bed fits in perfectly! As far as gas mileage is concerned, here in Canada, we go by the metric system, and it takes 8.5 to 9.0 liters to go 100 km, or, about 24 mpg combined on a US gallon. I love the car for its simplicity and reliability! This is my 11th Honda and they've all been great! I'm sad that Honda is not going forward with the model.
