Just had the oil changed in our Element with Pennzoil Platinum

. The oil capacity with the filter, according to the manual, is 4.4 qts. I bought the 5 qt jug(as it is cheaper) and the guys that changed it used all 5 qts. Should I drain out 0.6 qts or is this a "safe" overfill on this 2.4L 4 cylinder?

I do all my own oil changes on my Element and have noticed that it takes the full five (or very close). I also noticed the owners manuals literature, but it is definitely more than 4.4 with filter.

Let the dipstick be your guide.

What does the dipstick indicate? A little over the "full" mark is usually OK, but it very much depends on the particular engine. You can carry around a whole extra quart in some engines without causing windage problems, in some others half a quart extra causes frothing.

Go by the dipstick, not the number given by the manufacturer. Don't forget the filter is holding some oil too.
