Honda eGX Electric Boogaloo

The 30 pound units seem to have 1HP/hour worth of battery power (about double the battery capacity of a good electric lawn mower). And produce a peak power of 2.4HP, which it looks to be able to do for about 20 minutes, assuming normal efficiencies.

Certainly, this could replace a very small engine in some applications. It might even make for a nice commercial mower power pack.

I looked up the list price, seems like a bargain at $3,177 and $3,194. But at least the construction guys can plug in to recharge, and get in trouble for taking free electricity from a nearby location, or more likely, plug into a Honda inverter generator.

All to do the same amount of work as a 24 pound, $99, 127cc flathead Briggs, running at part throttle, on 2 cups of fuel. That's no joke, the Briggs will produce 2.5HP for 20 minutes on less than 16 ounces of fuel. Same goes for the more modern GX100 Honda engine.

The technology is nice, for sure. But couple the price with the limitations, and "engines" like this don't make construction site work easier, more efficient or faster.
