My 2003 honda ex coupe has keyless entry w/ factory alarm.

I JUST realized that when I walk away from car and activate the alarm that my drivers side door doesn't lock. I can just go open the door whenever(alarm sounds). However the lock switch in vehicle works and will lock both doors from inside the car.

I figure that a lock mechanism that is bad?

Thanks,

+1 the above sounds right

Had to replace a drivers side lock mechanism in an 01 Civic EX. Drivers side wouldn't work with key fob but passenger side did. New mechanism fixed the issue.

It's been awhile now though, and I can't remember if the electric lock still worked both doors from the inside.

I've read that it's a fairly common issue. But be warned, if you do that route, the whole mechanism comes as one piece.

It may also be the safety feature stuck on, on the 6th gen civics you can't lock the drivers door with it open, which is dumb. But what is dumber is if you hold the door latch open on the drivers door, then hit the lock button... it locks, talk about weird..

All Honda driver's door locks have been designed that way since 1973 - well before the availability of power door locks or keyless remote entry systems. It was designed that way as a Honda "innovation" to prevent accidentally locking the door with the key left in the ignition. The salesman explained that to me when I bought my first new Accord in 1977.

Ok update.

The lock button doesn't lock the drivers door, just the passengers. If I manually push the drivers side lock down, the passenger side locks.

Yep, likely the lock actuator. Perhaps you can find just the actuator, but looking at a Honda Parts Diagram, looks like the whole assembly is only $5-7 more. Anyway, that's the route I went and knew everything was new. DIY is doable, but it is kind of a pain and requires patience.

Found a good step by step DIY. Google how to open 2001 honda civic door panel, should be first choice.
