hi everyone. it's about time to i change mtf in my 00' civic 5 speed with 253k.i change every 25-30k miles maximum. should i use old or new version of honda mtf or to go with something else? i have no issue shifting gears, only i have problem with throw out bearing thats grinding, but i will fix later on.any suggestion/advice is welcome...

The new (post 2006) Honda MTF was an improvement over the original in our 03 civic. Amsoil also gets good reviews. 2 quarts. Make sure the fill opens before you open the drain!
^OR if you can remove the 'entire' VSS assembly(only 3 screws that only need 'tight' not even torque) as one unit(with easy access from over the top of the transmission) so you can re-fill via the VSS location instead of removing the 'fill' (upper) hole. I only use the drain bolt and VSS on my '92 Civic VX m/t. If you can't access or as 'iffy' about handling the VSS for any reason don't go that route, it is easier IF free access to the VSS is already present(Vehicle Speed Sensor).
Also, for my Civic it likes Amsoil MTF (5w30) better than Honda Genuine Type-II(though original HG MTF is available at places, its out dated as far as add pack), FWIW. Both are better options than motor oil, that's for sure, but the Honda MTF is more like a 20 multi-grade engine oil(relative to viscosity) so the Amsoil MTF is closer to the original fluid the transmission is used to(older HG MTF as well was thicker like 10w30).
GM Synchromesh MTF Friction Modified should work just fine, as well as Redline's MTL) that is listed as a 70w-80, just because if it's listed as a gear oil 'viscosity' that is equivalent to a 10w30 motor oil IIRC.
If you buy the Amsoil, get with Pablo on our site since he's a sponsor and help the guy out in-house.
