honda ATF? or should i go Mobil 1?

8k miles.
I plan to drain and refill at around 10k miles or after winter storage.
Im using Mobil 1 oil so far and wouldn't mind using the New Mobil 1 ATF fluid that is compatible. But will that void my warranty that i dont use the oem fluid? any other type of fluids you recommend?

Amsoil ATF works excellent in Honda AT's. I'm using it right now, and I love it.

If it's still under warranty, the general consensus is keep to OEM fluids. If the transmission dies under the warranty period, you will have one hassle less to get a replacement at the dealership.

I've have fantastic luck with the Mobil 1 ATF in PS applications. These have been ALL Ford though.

In case of a warranty claim, it is very unlikely that any dealership would take a sample for analysis. It might happen, but probably if the fluid is red and slippery, they'll just drain it and install a re-man transmission.

That said, I'd stick with the Honda product through the warranty period. What do you hope to gain with a different fluid?

It can't void your warranty if it's suitable for use in Honda ATF-Z1 applications. Really though, the Civic ATs last forever with minimal service. You've got an inline filter on yours as well. Check #7 here:

The basic laws say they cannot require you to use a specific ATF only one that meets certain specs. If they require a certain ATF, they have to provide it free of charge. Having said that any quality ATF that meets the specs for your transmission should be fine. Amsoil ATF is an excellent ATF.

M1 should be fine also if it meets your vehicle specs.

Z-1 ATF can be found online from a dealer in Pennsylvania for 4.85 per quart which is dirt cheap. I bought three cases of it when I had a Saturn VUE that had a Honda AT and Honda V-6.

i think M1 for Honda formula is still fairly new, i have not see report of experices on the BITOG yet. though i trust the brand, there are other try and true choice, currently are, Amsoil, Z1 and Maxlife.

I'm running Maxlife 2 qt + 1 qt Molakule's Z1 ATF, previously 3 qt Molakule's Z1 ATF. Currently it runs fine and the only thing I may want improvement on is the park to reverse shift. Normal 1-4 speed shifting are fine.

OT, but I priced a replacement 4-sp trans for the 1998 CRV, at the dealership it was $2499 installed with 3yr/36k warranty. Not bad at all.

You wouldn't want their remans. Tons of low mileage failures.
