Hi everyone,

I recently got my oil changed. The shop I went insisted to use Honda OEM filter although I had a new Pureone filter with me. Anyway, they installed Honda OEM filter which I had no idea difference between A01 and A02 filters. I did a little research on that and I figured that they installed A02 filter. (I had a chance to take a look the filter which by the way Made in USA)

Here is the issue I am having. Since I have been using this filter, I have my oil light flickers during cold start-ups. There is no noise or anything like that. The interesting thing is that oil light goes off and comes back for a second then goes away. Check out the video.

Is this something that I should worry about?

Any comment?

Thanks,

bad anti drain back valve? nevermind, watching the video it looks normal to me...? after running if you turn it off and immediately start it again does it still blink?

Was the issue there before? Maybe the installed filter was dropped during transport or had some sort of defect.

my previous filter was Pureone and oil light was not coming after It flickers during starting..

This issue I am having with this filter is kinda weird because light goes off as it is supposed to be and then comes back for a second ???

Ehh, it's so brief and no start up rattle, imo it's no biggie. A01 or A02 both use a silicone adbv so that shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't worry.

I suppose if it really bugs/concerns you (as it seems to), you can install that PL14610 but I don't think that's necessary.

I personally don't like the AO2 oil filter as the anti-drainback valve seals on what appears to be an irregular composite, cardboard like material. If you change the oil filter, please post the results.

I wouldn't worry about that little flicker for a spit second.

THa's a minor flicker that wouldn't worry me at this point either but watch for changes. Did you change oil viscosity?

Oil viscosity is the same (5W-20). I haven't changed since I bought this car. However, the previous owner used Kendall high mileage starting from 75k. I have used non high mileage oils from 87k-99k. (Mainly mobil super synthetic)

The last fill was with Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w20

I wouldnt use garbage "fram" honda filters (or their Subaru filters either). Fram Oil filters never worked well for me on any application. See the wix on my FIT - universal superb honda filter. Another excellent choice is the ACDelco (champion labs NON-Ecore) PF2057. Pur*O*Leaker Classic came in a distant third on the fit in my trials.

It is possibly ADBV problem. Yes I tried that. After driving around 5-6 miles I turned it off and started right away, it didn't blink.

Ive been using Purolator Classics on my Civic and i have the same issue. Its not all the time, but occasionally it flickers for a split second. Im wondering if the 5w-20 is too thin for my worn engine (183k) and not building enough oil pressure on startup.

The mechanic that I took my car also pointed out some sort of weeping somewhere from oil pump and said seal might need to be changed. Otherwise possible oil leak can damage the crank sensor or something.

However, that could be the mess of the guy who changed the oil previously..

Here are the some pics.

I had this very issue with my 2001 Civic when running Mobil 1 0w20 one OCI. I managed another 100k on that engine and sold it with 227k, running perfect.
