In this case I don't think so with all the manufacturing Toyota and Honda do in NA they and Idemitsu are intrinsically linked.
Besides no one else at the present time can make a 200 plus VI syn oil.


Just curious how you feel about these alliances now? I guess any auto maker will change...

There's no doubt left in my mind they make the Toyota Brand 0W-20.


Idemitsu finally got back to me. As it turns out they don't currently make a 0W-20 for Toyota. Or as they put it, a Toyota 0W-20.

So who's left in the States that could possibly make the Toyota oil? The Nippon Oil Company who do make a high VI 0W-20 that they sell under their own brand ENEOS, have a lubricant and grease production plant in Childersburg, Alabama.
The company is called Nippon Oil Lubricants (America) LLC. It's quite new only being established in 2005. They don't have a website so that is all I have at this time.

BTW, the Idemitsu spec's for the Honda 0W-20 from the MSDS are as follows:

40C vis 39.94 cSt
100C vis 8.52 cSt
VI 200
Flash Point 218C


Japanese companies align themselves in 'Keiretsu' and have done so for a long time. It is central to what they do, and the Japanese believe it is an important part of their overall economic success. Basically they are groups of companies that own each others' stock and share brainpower and expertise to the benefit of the whole group. Especially true in the auto industry there. It is highly unlikely that Idemitsu is aligned with Toyota if it has been established that they do significant business with Honda. It's just the way they do bidness over there. Toyota and Honda are major players in their own keiretsus and are indeed true competitors.

It looks like this is an old thread that got a recent bump, so this may be old news but thought I would chime in anyway----
