Homemade quick release fuel filter tool for Fords

Yah PMA is good to have when you're car crawlin'. I encountered these when "refreshing" the Rat. I dont remember having major trouble with this operation. It was right in the way of a frame repair. All the stuff had to be unclipped from the frame rail to gain the slack to be unplugged. It was my first encounter with the quick connects.

The connection doesn't have to be fast, it needs to not leak. On my cars, it has to be serviceable by me. I R+Red the clutch. The last Ford pickup I had owned was a 62 F 250. What a change. Modern Fords are designed to be assembled and sold. They are not designed to be serviced

I saw somewhere how to do the same thing with the aluminum from an old soda can. Might have been a different brand/ style connector, but the same premise.

Wish I had seen this a while back. Try explaining to a 16 year old behind a parts desk what a quick connect fitting release tool is, what it does and what it looks like.

Myself: "It kind of looks like a top hat with a hole in the middle, and it snaps around metal fuel lines."
Teller: "Is this it?"
Myself: "No that's not it."
Teller: "I don't think we have any of those here, maybe try Napa"
Myself: "It's gotta be here somewhere..."
Teller: "There's nothing listed in the system sir, sorry."
My Wife: "Ooh lets stop at Pottery Barn on our way to Napa."
Myself:

I had a Ford Aerostar van a few years back - first and only time I changed the plugs, it took me six hours. The final back plug on the passenger side I removed by locking two box end wrenches together. That really put a hurtin' on my PMA.

I followed this exact video a few weeks ago doing an F150 fuel filter. It worked but was still a pain in the butt.

Really, Though the tool is less than 5 dollars and if you have a Ford, more than likely you will use it more than once. I usually change the fuel filter every year. I have two Fords, So to me. Its easier to buy the tool. I fabricate a lot of tools, this one doesn't seem to be worth it.
