Hi, I noticed that my home thermostat is in recovery mode and I have not noticed this before.
I have a programmable Honeywell system, at 8pm the cooling switches from 77 degrees to 72 degrees. At 730pm, I noticed that it was in recovery mode. AC vents are blowing cold air (new system installed approx 3 months ago).
Is the system going into recovery mode using more power (electric)? Is there anything I need to be doing / looking into?

It's trying to make it to the 72 degree setpoint BY 8:00, so it starts early to try to get there in time. It can be disabled if you don't want recovery mode, sounds like a solution in search of a problem.

This does not make sense. If you were concerned about using more power then you wouldn't be setting the thermostat as low as 72F.

I am not criticizing your choice to do so! It is your home, your bill, your right to set it anywhere you want, but that is the answer to what you should be doing if you don't want it to be using more power. The longer it stays at the higher temperature the less power it uses. The higher the lowest temp (it ever reaches) is, the less power it uses.

Disable recovery mode, enable recovery mode, either way it's the same thing except for it starting ahead of time to hit your target temp. If it's starting a half hour before you want it to, set it to 8:30 instead of 8:00... same diff.

As others stated it's normal. Those thermostats have away and home mode and the recovery mode is meant to start cooling your house earlier then you scheduled, so that the house reaches the desired temperature when you get home or at least cools off some. The assumption is that nobody is home. If you simply set this to save energy and people are still in the house, turn it off and it will start cooling your house exactly per schedule programmed.
