Hilarious conversation I overheard at CT...

Hey Benny

Good to see you online, I have customers who buy Top brand synthetics such as Motul and change it every 3000KM I always ask them not to dump the oil and bring it back to my shop. I will gladly take their used oil and use it in my own car for another 10,000K :)

Hate to tell you guys, but there are plenty of people dumping oil at 2000 miles here on BITOG.

It makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

My goal is annual oil changes in April. If people ask, I tell them I'm doing it for the environment (and I am going to use RLI oil in my Saturn as soon as the weather warms up again). But a lot of it was because I got tired of crawling under the car in December or January.

Well Mobil 1 synthetic for less than 5000 km is certainly a waste. Mobil 1 oils go as high as $40/jug here, so I am talking about majority who use cheaper dino.

I just remembered another factor - oil capacity. Even my smallish SUV only takes about 3L. On average cars are smaller and have lower oil capacity. Thus we need shorter OCIs.

When I read here about long OCIs, such as 10K miles, often they talk about using 6qts or thereabouts. That is about double of my oil capacity, so it makes sense they can go longer.
