"High Mileage" Oils - Pat Goss

buster,

You have to take Pat Goss's opinions with a grain of salt. He may know more than us cuz his business is cars but I'm not always on the same page with him. Once upon a time he endorsed using oil that had teflon inside to increase MPG. We all know how that turned out. Now I believe his opinion has changed.

Also you notice how much steak he's eating lately??? Motorweek pays well for his opinions.

If you have an engine with leaks or even seepage the high mileage oil sometimes works wonders.. I think the High Mileage oils have a lot to offer... I happen to use them only in the summer on two extremely high mileage engines in the winter i use the regular 5w30 because it flows better (most High Mileage oils are blended on the high side)

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!

But should it be dipped in Maxlife or Pennzoil?

How is that an analogy?

Whether he is old school or not the issue is whether to use a High Mileage oil when in fact it is not needed to control a problem like a leaking/seeping seal or oil consumption.

I have to agree with him on the point that there is no need to use a High Mileage oil if your engine is operating fine. The 75,000 mile interval is pure marketing hype to get one to use MaxLife. You may never need a High Mileage oil or it could be well into the hundred of thousands of miles before you do.

Ah, yes. He should come here and maybe study the "facts" that we agree on here at BITOG.

Maybe he should start with the current BITOG Logic thread where we all agree on the "facts" about synthetic vs. dino.

Gentlemen, we live here in a house with walls made of oil. Be careful of being the first to throw "facts" around too carelessly.
