High mileage oil

Recent oil change I tried Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 oil (was on sell) in the wife's Saturn which has approx 96,000 miles. Not too happy with it. Got that quick ticking noise from the lifters at starting, which the Saturn never did before this last oil change. Has anybody else had similiar results from high mileage oil use? Will be doing another oil change this week and going back to regular oil.

it's an oil, and its thicker.
i'm running the 10W30 and it works fine.

Some lifters do better with thin on start up. My Mazda does.

Pennzoil High Mileage worked great in my Saturn. How cold was it when the car was started and exhibited the ticking noise?

High mileage oils are thicker. May thru October would be a better time for your Mazda engine and geopgraphical region.

Hasn't been cold here (west coast). Temp range 0c to 8c in the mornings. Knew high mileage oil was abit thicker, but thought it be ok. Just a really good price at Walmart for a 4.73L jug. So I figured what the heck, might just try it. Thanks all for the response!

I'm running Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 in my 94 Safari, and even on the coldest mornings the oil pressure gauge will flick up to it's normal running position within 1 second. The coldest it's got to so far while I've been running the 10w30 would have been about -27 celsius overnight.

I tried PP in my Saturn (had 55k miles on it at the time) and the oil consumption increased dramatically. After 2-3 Oil changes, I switched back to Havoline.

I did use Pennzoil High Mileage oil in it and took it out to 4k with a used oil analysis. Had good results and am thinking of using it again.

I had the same "increased consumption issues" with Plationum. I even allowed three OCIs to straighten it out. Actually got worse each OCI.

Now it's almost time to use my free-after-rebate three OCIs of Valvoline Maxlife synthetic in the same vehicle. Hope to see better results.

Does that indicate the oiling circut is charged, or just the filter?

If Maxlife is still the lightest High Mileage oil, that should help ALOT.
